Hello all,
I have the original hopper and would like to get some 4k programming. I chatted with dish customer service but I'm not sure if I got the correct info from them or not...

What 4K programming is currently available, including vod,ppv or channels?
I have slow ds (all that is available 3M/.5).

Just trying to figure out what is out there to watch in 4K from dish.

Thanks!

I am in the same situation as you, slow internet. Dish does not have a satellite delivered 4K channel. All its 4K requires an internet download. I was able to test my 4K TV and Dish service during the Olympics. Dish had a 4K satellite delivered channel. It worked fine for me. If you don't have a huge screen size , I could not see any difference between real 4K and the up converted 4K on my 58" 4K TV. from the seats I normally watch TV..

Appreciate the reply. That is a bummer. Hoping for more 4k programming. It is for a projector system so it is a 120 inch screen. Was hoping to be able to watch some 4k movies. Looks like UHD rentals will be about the only way for me to get anything to watch.
Does Directv offer 4k channels or programming that doesn't require internet to download them?

If you have any Blu ray 1080p movies Sony makes a quick start 4K Upscaling Blu ray player that does a good job upscaling to 4K,but if you want HDR then the Samsung UHD Blu ray player is the answer.Good Luck!

Or if you are near Charter,Time Warner,or Brighthouse cable systems they will be expanding looking for 2 million new broadband subscribers and they have no caps.

I just got the XBox One S for $299 at Amazon. New model that both streams 4K and plays 4K UHD discs (if they'd ever release a 4K movie I'd actually buy :rollingeyes)

After you get it up and running, you DL the Blu Ray app. So for $17 LESS, I get a game player to boot.

Yep, that same kind of deal was there in the HDDVD vs BluRay war days. The best BluRay player was the PS3 and a heck of a lot of them got bought just for that.

I have an issue with my H3 & called for help & during that conversation I asked about future 4k channels. She mentioned that Dish was negotiating with ESPN for channel 141 (ESPNU) to be 4k. That's all the info she had.

You're probably right. Can't rely on what they say. I called back the next day after seeing what DirecTV was offering in 4k channels. Apparently they have a few dedicated channels as part of their 4k package offering 4k MLB, some other sports & events as well. I asked where could I find these channels on Dish? Silence... Of course, nowhere! He then apologized & repeated what the other CSR said the previous day, a channel is coming from ESPN. Time will tell!

They have about 3 or 4 movies on VOD that are downloaded from the satellite and stored on the hard drive. They had the olympics channel in 4K. I am sure they will have more in the future.

Last I checked, 4k VOD is Internet streamed on Dish. It's satellite streamed on DTV, so slowly that you might as well plan on watching the next day.

They've got more than 3 or 4 movies available for streaming in 4K too.

The VOD's on channel 1 are resident on your hard drive and need no internet streaming capability. They currently include 4 4K titles.

If that's true, why do I get an error while trying to download 4k content? When I first got H3 I tried to download episodes of one of the free 4k series available at that time & recently VOD offered 4k Rio Olympic video as free to download; each time an error came up that said my internet was too slow. If it can be recorded to my hard drive, why would internet speed be a factor? If it isn't streaming it certainly acts like streaming. I reported this to Dish CSR & they don't have a clue.

I say again, channel 1, channel 1, channel 1. That's where the pre-downloaded titles are. Where are they? Channel 1.

And also as said before, all the other VOD is from the internet.

I understood you the first time. I've attached what I was referring to as you missed my point. For lack of expert terminology I refer to these as the other VOD. They are not pre-downloaded. As you said they are downloaded from the internet. As I said in my post, I can download everything except for 4k from the "other VOD". I get a bandwidth error only when renting 4k. Everything except 4k downloads to the hard drive without issues.
