Hi all, I am a current Verizon FiOS TV and Internet customer. My contract is up and I am contemplating moving TV services over to Dish while keeping the FiOS Internet. I have a few questions on how I would set this up.

My home does not have Ethernet wired, only RG6. I currently have the FiOS router located in my main floor office and am using an Actiontec Network extender down in the basement. This provides wireless AP and wired ethernet connectivity over the Moca connection to my router.

As I understand it, it is not possible to run the FiOS Moca network and the Hopper Moca network on the same coax. Since the Hopper also acts as a Moca bridge, providing internet access to the Joeys via the local Ethernet connection, would it also act as a bridge for the Actiontec network extender? Below is an example of what I am talking about if it helps.

The Hopper 2 and 3 have Wireless built in.
Worst case you put the Hopper near the router and use a small ethernet cable.

All your joeys get Internet through the Hopper anyway through coax.

I think it's always a good idea to actually read a post before responding to it. That way the response may be relevant.

So what did you contribute?

And I read it just fine.
If he isn't going to have fios for TV, why is this an issue?
I've never seen a computer running on coax.
Your fiber doesn't need to run through entire network of Coax for Internet only.

Dish is just going to disconnect everything except for the coax going to his router and tie the house into his own setup.
Its not rocket science.

And then it will be Hopper Wifi from there.

My ultimate question was regarding the Actiontec extender. Will the Hopper bridge the Actiontec Extender's Moca connection to my FiOS router over the ethernet connection, or will the hopper only bridge the Joeys?

The way its bridged now, is how it will stay.
Dish isn't going to mess with your router or extender.
Just the tv outlets

I didn't 'contribute' because I wasn't certain of the answer. Sorry, that might be a term you're not familiar with seeing as you seem to think you know it all and your need to try and convince all of us of that in almost every thread.

If you had bothered reading the post you would have seen that the OP is looking for a way to get internet out of the Joey coax. A HIC might work but I don't know for sure so I didn't butt in and try and take over the thread.

First, Welcome to Satelliteguys! My apologies for the unwelcome intrusion.

Two Hopper Internet Connection devices or HIC's should work. I've used them before to extend internet from the Hopper MoCA network but I don't know if they'll be fast enough for your FIOS.

Thanks for the info. Just to confirm, I can use the HIC instead of the Actiontec Extender to provide internet connectivity to another device like a wireless AP or computer via the Ethernet port? Can you point me to any documentation on the HIC? I would like to get some more info on bandwidth/speed supported. Also, does the latest generation of Hopper/Joey use Moca 1.1 or Moca 2.0?

What I've done in the past is connect a HIC at the router to inject the internet signal into the Hopper MoCA network. Then a HIC at the extender to extract the internet signal and feed it to the AP. This will also provide internet to the Hopper and all the Joeys on the MoCA network.

This is all the HIC info that I've got handy. Good Luck. :)

Thanks. If the Hopper is near the router and I can connect ethernet, and the Extender is Moca capable, would that mean I do not need to install any HICs?

I don't know and I would personally not try it. I wouldn't want to directly mess with the Hopper MoCA network without a HIC as the gateway

And you're welcome. :)

Actiontec has some neat and innovative networking solutions. Looking at product descriptions and reviews on amazon, it doesn't appear to be an option with Dish or Directv for many of the extenders I looked at.

If you go this route, keep it independent of the satellite system.

Ubiquity has some great products as well that can provide wireless solutions with fast throughput speeds.

And he doesn't need to get Internet out of the Joey for his extender.
His Router and extender would be on one network.
Just as it is now.
You would just remove the TV outlets from the current setup.

You don't need an HIC either.

So you're saying that he can run his FIOS MoCA network and his Hopper/Joey MoCA network on the same coax? Basically that was his question.

In order for you to make such a definitive statement as you've made that that this would be possible must mean that you have FIOS and have run both networks on the same coax or you have official and credible information that you can cite saying same that we can all see. Please elaborate which one it is.

No im saying, you don't need too.
His system will work just as it has been just fine.

He wants to use the same coax for Hopper/Joeys and FIOS so he can add a remote access point at the location of one of the Joeys (back to reading the original post). How in your world would you do that?

Ok. I have FiOS Internet and Dish. The coax out from the FiOS router is for TV. I leave it unconnected. That router also has a wireless component and 4 Ethernet out ports. One in from the FiOS point (box hanging on outside wall).

No need to send anything FiOS over coax if you don't have their TV service.

As to using the coax to feed the network extender- no, that won't work on the same coax Dish uses. But perhaps that leg could be isolated. Dish does not use the star configuration so common with cable systems.
