SL3 LNB 99 Signal Not Acquired

I self installed my Direct TV Satellite 3 years ago. Everything has been working well until today, this morning I woke up to 771-Signal Lost on some of my HD channels. Everything was working last night so I don't know what could've changed between last night and this morning.



Here's my specs:



Receiver: HR24/200

Software: 0xac8, TUE 8/30, 3:37a

Dish: SL3PIG-Z

Also, I'm a tad bit confused as how my 99 satellite is the only one that isn't showing up. I thought they were on an arc meaning if the 103 is dialed in the 99 should be too or am I understanding this wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, they are on an arc, and your dish is pointed correctly, does NOT need to be moved.
However, an lnb can go bad on just one of the three birds. Sometimes its errant static electricity, or a nearby lightning strike. And sometimes you just need a software download.

Reboot your main genie, or whatever ird is not getting signal, by pressing red button by the card slot, as soon as you see the "hello" message, on your remote hit 0,2,4,6,8 0,2,4,6,8 0,2,4,6,8

This will trigger a software update if there is one available. Technically, you only need to hit the sequence of numbers once, but doing it repeatedly just helps if the timing is off


IF it.begins a software download, it might fix your problem, if it does nothing, then your software is up to date, and your lnb is bad. If it does a software download and you still have problems, your lnb is bad.

Another possibility, is that a tree limb on the left side of your dish has broken, or sagged down and is blocking the line of site for 99

The numbers on 101 indicate a well aimed dish....moving it will just cause more problems.
 
Ok, thanks for the help. Glad I didn't go fiddling with the dish :). I restarted the box and did the update. It didn't help. Fortunately, there's no trees the direction of the satellite is pointing (it faces into open pasture) so I think we've narrowed the problem down. Guess I'll head to the local satellite retailer tomorrow. I guess nothing lasts forever, it's just terrible timing. Again Thanks for the help!!!!!

Have you checked all of your connections? Is your dish accessible to check the connections there?

I have checked all the connects to the best of my knowledge. My LNB has 4 outlets and I only use 2. I switched the cables to the other two but still got the same result. I don't currently have any replacement B-Band tuners so I couldn't switch them out but they're connected securely.
 
Hard to say. :-/. We're pretty inland. We just got a bunch of wind and rain (Wind gusts to 30mph). Nothing like the coast, I have friends there, they got hammered, could be coincidence but the timing's right.

Actually, I think your dish is fine, was just wondering about the winds ...
Your numbers look to be good for the rest, change the LNB and you'll be back in business.
Make sure you get the same type that you are currently using.
Make doesn't have to be the same as long as the use is accurate.
A SWM SL3 is more than likely what your using.
 
Also, make sure your dish and your lines are grounded. Even when you dont have a lightning strike nearby, bad weather and high winds cause a LOT of static electricity in the air and anything metal just soaks it up. Even a simple 18-20 guage wire from the dish to a ground can give that static a place to go. Im guessing that a lack of ground may be what caused the failure.
 
You technically don't need to ground the dish, only the coax.

The coax is connected to the LNB, which is metal which connects and ties into the metal arm on the dish.

The only exception would be Dish as they use a plastic lnb bracket.
 
Hey guys, sorry it took so long. The local retailer didn't have any LNB's in so I ordered one of amazon. It just arrived and I just came off the roof. Everything's perfect now. All numbers are in the 90's and there's no errors on the satellite setup screen.Thanks for all the help. I've never experienced this before and I never would've imagined that the LNB would need to be replaced. I thought it was the receiver to be honest. Glad I came here first. You guys are awesome.

Quick question, I noticed the part of the conversation about the coax cable needing to be grounded. How exactly am I supposed to accomplish that. The coax cable does have a ground cable attached or there's a small copper wire on the side of the coax cable. It's a double cable. My question is what exactly do I attach that to? That cable runs into the house which runs to the box and there's nothing on the LNB to attach a grounding cable.... or am I understanding your advice wrong?

There should of been a grounding block outside....The ground wire comes off there.....Grounds should be were the electrical service is grounded....
 
running right in like that, i'd wager $50 there's no where close by the coax thats even a legal ground source. *mumbles angrily* gotta love classy techs.

Well I'll have to take blame for my poor explanation. The satellite was already on the house when I moved in. I would never trust drilling into my own roof. I'm not that confident in my skills :). In reality, I just connected by box in the living room into the pre-existing coax outlets. That being said, I'll follow the lines this afternoon when I get home to see if it's indeed grounded. It could be, I just wanted to know what I was looking for. This morning was kind of fast. I replaced the LNB, quickly tested it (using the receiver setup), and left for work (my sat is super easy to get to. It's on the side of the house. Just climb up the latter, remove the screw, reconnect the lines and climb back down). It actually could be grounded. I just wanted to know what I was looking for. I really don't know how old the actual satellite is. I connected my receiver to it 3 years ago and haven't had any problems until this past Sunday. It could have just been its time to 'Go'.
