Today when I turned on my receiver. There was a message saying that in order to use the DVR feature that I have to reformat my hard drive. Did they update the software?

I've been using this hard drive for a while and I several shows I still needed to watch. : /

I installed a different drive and it worked but I don't want to lose whats on my other drive.

Where is the pm button? I don't see it.

Not sure what exactly fixed it. Dish send something to my receiver and I rebooted it.

DirecTV has a "re-send authorization signal to my receiver" option on their website. Something DISH should add to theirs.

Well....it did it again. : /

I would guess that you have a defect in either the hard drive or the usb cable. I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue with a 211K.

It might be the 211k itself, but it's hard to say without opening it up. I was having all sorts of issues with my older 211 receiver that I was able to trace to a puffed electrolytic capacitor by the SmartCard socket. I replaced that and returned the 211 to life. But it's probably the EHD itself, or

There are threads on this site on how to backup the contents of the 411/211/211k/211z/Wally EHD to a new EHD using your favorite Linux distro to access the EHD's file system. Another option is to pull apart your EHD and run SpinRite against the SATA drive in a desktop PC which can recondition the HD and repair any bad sectors. It all depends on your comfort level...

Thanks I was wondering if I could save the recordings.

Today I took the hard drive out of the enclosure (WD My Book) and put it in a new HD enclosure. Maybe with a new USB cable and electronics it might help. Fingers crossed. :)
