Phone Scammers Posing as Dish Reps

Just an FYI that I received a call from scammers wanting to provide 'upgrades' to the software on my H3's. The caller ID even showed Dish's phone number. I played along for a bit (like the 'Microsoft Support' scam) because it is entertaining and informative (will now let F&F who have Dish know in person).

They did ask for my PIN, and last 4 of SSN or CC on file (couldn't quite understand), at which point I gave them a bit of an earful ('shame' and 'mother' are good words to use) and disconnected.

EDIT 1: They did ask for the Hopper card/receiver numbers which I also refused to provide. As a rule, unless you initiate the call, never provide ANY information whatsoever. Unless you want to play around and obfuscate.

Thanks for the info. Just a note, it isn't DISH scammers as the tittle says it is scammers.

I just suffered one of these phone scams this morning (Thanksgiving) purporting to come from Dish. First they asked if I had all my channels, and ignored my answer (they're all fine) to tell me that the satellite orbitals had recently changed! I didn't wait to hear what kind of scam he was running and just hung up on him. Oh, and it sounded like an Indian accent and it came from a boiler room full of people talking. What a horrible way to make a living.

Pretty sure audit team is long gone, don't think they care if you stack anymore as long as you pay your bill...Not much of a issue anymore with the hopper.

I Agree with rklimaszewski. Don't trust anyone talking to you over the phone. It's better to just hang up and call the real numbers of those companies. Talking about IRS scams, these scams are old. I have just did a little Google search about it and found some reports filed at whycall.me/720-414-5707.html since last year. Beware of them and keep spreading the word, folks.
