Hopper 3 Folder Setup

The Hopper 3 (H3) that my landlord had installed recently has given me as a tenant a lot of problems so far. One of them is that he has created 10 folders (photo attached) that all start with the letter "J". After he had finished, I created one folder for myself "David" and a friend. When I setup programs to record and want them to go to my folder I have to scroll down one name at a time to the bottom of the long list every time. I have tried renaming my folder to "aDavid" thinking that would put it at the top but that did nothing at all.

What is the criteria for the folder hierarchy? Is there any way that I can get my folder at or near the top of the list? Perhaps it's the order of creation so maybe recreate his folders?
Thanks,
Dave

i have 8 folders that I created and they appear to be listed on my screen in the order that I created them. I can't think of any way to change that, short of deleting and re-creating them. If you delete folders with programs in them, those programs will go back to your main DVR view (you won't lose anything).

I'm looking more and more forward to seeing a guy in a GA Tech shirt on a future episode of Judge Judy trying to explain to her how a Hopper and Joey work, and how that ultimately led to landlord/tenant "issues".

"but...but...he deleted my DVR Folders, Your Honor!!!" :D

AWESOME! LOL!!

I want all of my recordings listed by date, not in folders. Reading this thread, it seems that the way to accomplish this is to remove all of the folders. Is this still how the process works? I would want to not show any folders, including the ones that I never plan to use, he folders that I do not use, such as the one that the automatic prime time show go in (I do not use this feature) and the folder for Netflix (don't use it) etc.

So, if I truly can remove the folders and see the recorded programs in a list, how do I remove a folder? The 138 page PDF manual addresses this matter on mage 64. Here it says to: 1. Press DVR. 2. Chose a group or sort option to quickly find the program you want to watch. Then the manual goes to bullet points, the first of which is how to group programs into folders. At this point it mentions No Folders. However, my Hopper3 has folders already (maybe the installer chose this option, but of course he did a lot that I did not understand at the time), and I just want them to go away, and just have a list of my recorded programs.

I would appreciate your help.

To remove folders do the following:
1) Hit DVR
2) Hit Options
3) Select Manage Folders (4)
4) Select the folder you want to delete and select Delete

The Prime Time folder and the Rentals folders can not be deleted but if PTAT is not enabled, there will not be any programs in the Prime Time folder.

When in the DVR menu you can use the Options key to sore by A-Z or by Date.

Thank you, dweber. I was tying to delete the Prime Time folder and the Rentals folder, and hadn't tried the others because I didn't want to delete the recordings in those folders. We will watch the only show in one of those folders tonight, so I'll test the process on that one.

Deleting the folders does not delete the programs stored in the folders. When the folder is deleted the programs that were in the folder show up on the DVR screen.

Boy, I guess I haven't been paying attention. When did the Hopper 3 lose the "5 Folder Limit"? I've been putting major sporting events into my "Dramas" folder since I thought I couldn't make more folders.

As far as I know, that limit was only on the old UI. (which the Hopper 3 never had) Removing that limit was one of the (few) improvements made to older Hoppers by switching them to the CUI.

dweber, what I really want to do is list all of the programs in one list -- no separating by name of program, no icons -- I moved from a 622 and feel like I need to get out my finger paints and forget how to read. Any way to do what I want?

Icons will stay and there is no way to go to the list that you are used to. You have an option to show that programming by title or date recoded though.

Thanks. So I set up the timer from the guide , then edit the timer to go directly to a folder. I guess there is no way to send it to a folder directly from the guide.

Unfortunately, the new carbon interface that Dish is now using is icon based. The younger generation do not like to read - they prefer icons. I personally feel that an alphabetical list is easier to find a given program when you have a lot of content than sorting through a bunch of icons. But we are the minority. It would have been nice if Dish would have given users the choice of icons or list like Windows does.

Am I reading this thread correctly that I can set up a folder called "Recordings" or such, and then whenever i have an icon for something I have recorded (one show or a list) I can move whatever that icon refers to to a folder, where it will show up as a list? if I only have to move "Dr Pol" once to get future episodes to show up as a list in "Recordings," I am willing to do that. Or, maybe I will adapt.
