So today I noticed my WD 2tb mybook was no longer showing but my 1 TB older mybook was. I unplugged the drive from the usb 3.0 port and tried again no luck. Rebooted the Hopper (power unpluged for 1 minute) still no luck. I then tried my older mybook in the usb 3.0 port and it worked fine, so I tried the newer mybook in the 2.0 usb port and it worked. Tried the newer mybook in the 3.0 port again and no luck.

So for some reason the usb 3.0 mybook won't show up (drive power light does come on though) when plugged into the hopper 3.0 usb back port but does work fine in the 2.0 port. I tried it on my laptop computer int he usb 3.0 ports and it worked fine. Anyone else have an issue like this?

I bought this mybook to use the faster 3.0 usb port on the hopper 3 so I hope this is fixable.

Isn't the "MyBook" bus-powered? I know that while some have gotten drives like this to work, (and maybe something has changed) I thought that Dish does not "officially" support EHD's that do not have separate/external power supplies?

I have a WD 2T MyBook and it works fine with my 3.0 USB, FWIW. However, even though it seems like its better, I still have issues with it disappearing overnight from the DVR list, and it requires a red button reboot to be "found" again.

So tried the following things to no avail - Remove EHDS then reboot Hopper 3 (unplug power plug for a minute or two) wait after it reboots awhile and plug 3.0 usb into 3.0 port - no luck (though it worked on 2.0 port). I put the Mybook usb 3.0 in the 2.0 port and my old 2.0 usb mybook into the 3.0 port as a work around.

So after reading some stuff on Western Digital support page I took a shot in the dark and bought a new 3.0 Cable (3.3'). Removed both EHD drives (unplug usb cables) and then shut down the hopper 3 again and then powered on. Waited a bit after powered on and plugged the 3.0 usb Mybook into the 3.0 port and success! Now the newer usb 3.0 mybook is working through the usb 3.0 port and the older is plugged into the 2.0 port. I played content saved to both and even rebooted the Hopper since.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

I recently ran into a problem, not related to this issue, and found the culprit to a be an HDMI cable, as well. Perhaps we should all start looking at the "delivery" element of the equation, and not presume our HDMI cables "are just fine". Some are definitely not!

To further that, I was getting flashing and black screens on my Mac to monitor screen. I replaced the HDMI cable and that fixed it! So, cables are good and then they are bad.
