On and off (mostly on), my PC monitor would not shut down, nor would Win 10 go to sleep/hibernate. After reading related articles/posts, I used System Config/Task Manager to disable all startup programs, then one by one, re-enabled and restarted. I eventually discovered that the Dish Anywhere Player startup was the culprit, and I will keep it disabled for now. I wanted to share this in case some of you are experiencing the same problem.

I have never had a problem shutting down, but I have always had problems with my screensaver not wanting to start. I knew that it was either my mouse cursor jittering around, or one of my apps. I suspected that Dish Anywhere might be the problem. I will try disabling it and see if my screensaver starts.

I noticed this a few months ago when I first install DishAnywhere after they used the app that runs outside the browser, if DishAnywhere Player was running, windows will not go to sleep on my notebook so I killed the processes and all was well. Then disabled it from startup which actually runs 3 processes. I just thought it was my system that behaved that way since my display is integrated so others might not have the problem as they can just use the power button on the display which is not something I can do.

No need to disable, just kill the proceesses and if it works, then you know it's the culprit and then disable. If not, you can leave it.

It turned out that Dish Anywhere was the culprit why my screen saver would never start. I will prevent Dish Anywhere from starting automatically, and just let it start when I need it. After using it, you can right-click on it in the taskbar and select Quit. That will allow the screen saver to work again.

Thanks KAB!

Not sure why it autostarts in the first place. I just kill it with Processhacker if it does start. One interesting thing is that Dishanywhere is only usable on a admin account and not a regular account it seems even if it was installed.

An easy way to stop it from starting automatically in Windows 10 is to start Task Manager, click on the Startup tab, right click on Dish Anywhere Player, then select Disable. After that, the Dish Anywhere process won't start automatically, but it will still start by itself once you start a video in the Dish Anywhere app.

Yes, that's what I did 3-4 months ago.. Just saying that there is no way for a non-admin user to even run the app.
