Can you record a show from Netflix to the DVR?

No it can't be recorded. It's a streaming service so there is no need to record their shows.
Yes... And if you leave a show part way through it when you return it will go to the spot where you left off - or give the option to start over.
For most people the answer is correct, you can't record Netflix. There are ways however it's just that the average viewer isn't going to take the steps nor really needs to overall.
Apparently SOME of Netflixes offerings can be "downloaded" but thats probably to a tablet, or maybe PC - I've never tried it yet.
You can with video capture. A Hauppauge PVR works great. It records it to your computer though and not the DVR.

There is a service called PlayOn that allows recording to your hard drive on a computer.
It's a one-time paid program you can download and install.
It will record from Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and many other "channels".
I've used it for about 4 years.
Is that capturing the stream losslessly, or does it just re-encode the video as it plays?
I do not have Oceans XStream, but I believe it records the stream as it comes in, no re-incoding.
I just found their website. No, it doesn't capture/download the original stream, it records and encodes directly from your video card. I'm pretty sure that's what PlayOn does as well. If you don't have enough system resources (RAM, CPU, Video Card), quality can suffer.
Maybe because content goes away on Netflix, eventually, and they would want to have it for all time...
I assume most if not all Netflix content carries a copyright. Check their terms of service to see if can "have it for all time".
We all know how those copyrights work and we all know how the user pays absolute attention to them...
I know with PlayOn, which I view with the app on my computer or the Roku app on the same home network, it displays a message: This was recorded by user xxx at IP address xx.xx.xx.xx. Not sure if that's how they address it but that is appended to the beginning of every recording and that message cannot be turned off.
I've had content no longer available on both Netflix and Hulu before I had a chance to watch them. I learned a long time ago the streaming thing has some very ANNOYING things about it, CONSTANT stuff going away and new stuff come in to just go away again among other annoyances, but they are CHEAP by comparison, but don't always have the content I am interested in, or at least without having to wait TWO Years for that content.
MVPD's like Dish seem to offer the better option of saving recordings until you have time to watch them even if the channel no longer airs the series. I've been able to watch things ONE YEAR later and enjoy them, but NOT necessarily with N or H or A, and some content on A (Amazon) goes back and forth from FREE to behind a pay wall. I could understand people wanting to record and watch MUCH later.
