Spam call from Echostar?

Just got a call from Echostar (800.333.3474) claiming to be Dish moving satellites because of "so many complaints". Caller was hard to understand with a very thick accent, I assumed it was a scam and hung up before he got through the pitch.

Anyone else get anything similar?

One of the latest scams in our area involves scammers pretending to be employees from Dish Network. These scammers have a good deal of your personal information and can also access the satellite receivers, to make it seem like they are legitimate. The callers may even have the last four digits of your bank card. They caller ID can even display Dish Network. They’ll call you saying they have a better rate for you if you switch service packages, or tell you that you need to upgrade your receiver. A reminder to never give out personal information over the phone. Dish Network says they never contact customers by phone, only by mail and email. They want customers to initiate the call so there’s no confusion. Contact your Dish provider if you have any questions.

The number is actually Dish, just faked. I'll answer but usually hang up pretty quickly.

Yeah, these spam artists go to extremes to get you to answer your phone. Lately I have been getting tons of calls not just from my area code but by my specific prefix as well. They all say California Call on my Caller ID. I just let it go to recorder and then call block them on my Pro Call Blocker... That's the last I'll from that number.

They call you and what? Do they think you are going to give them personal information? That's where I hang up and call the company direct, using the famous tag line that my cell dropped the call.

We do the same and have had ever since caller ID. Now we have NoMoRobo on all our lines and I watch incoming calls very carefully. But the Dish Network number is a known number that has called in the past and was valid. So to say not to answer unknown calls that's great but this is a known call.

The latest in new scams is number spoofing including caller ID information that makes it all the more difficult to figure out who's calling, so you may just very well pick up an unknown call with a spoofed number.

Nowadays, unless it's a number that we get called from often and really know who it is, we let everything go to voicemail and screen that. So if it is a legitimate call they'll leave a message and will call them right back. That is if NoMoRobo doesn't catch the call before it gets to us.

Was at friends yesterday with landline and Dish call (on caller ID) came in while I was there and I told her about how criminals are now spoofing calls to look like Dish. Don't trust anyone they've figured out how to fake the caller ID now.

Yes, I understand about the number spoofing. I still see no reason to answer a call from DISH or from a DISH spoofer. If I answer a call from Jennifer Garner and it turns out to be a spoofer, I'll just deal with the disappointment and find something else to do on Saturday night.

I'd try to keep them on the line and see how long you can do it. Then the next day, tell everyone that you talk to (who you thought was) Jennifer Garner for hours.

Unless it's a number we know or are expecting, it goes to VM and we screen it. If it's legit, we pick it up. They've all understood, some saying they do it themselves. My office phones don't even ring. If I happen to notice the light go on and know who the caller is, I'll answer. Otherwise, off to VM. Unless I'm bored. Then I'll answer and waste as much of their time as they allow before hanging up on me.

I'm one of the ones responsible for tech support for my company. I don't have all the employee's numbers stored in my cell (and with number spoofing, that wouldn't necessarily mean anything anyway). If I have time, I'll answer the call regardless of number. It would take just as long to answer the call as it would to listen to the VM (which I'd need to do anyway).

I filed another ticket and posted a complaint to their support forum the other day.

Sad part about it is even if remove Tapatalk the emails and notices will still come from them as it appears the posts are coming from their own archives.

I am having members complain of old alerts suddenly coming to their phone since upgrading to Xenforo 2.2. I also have the latest Tapatalk plugin 1.2.9

I've fallen for that several times. Then called out on it by many that have liked posts on this very page. At times, it's been funny. But mostly angering and aggravating for all parties involved or peeved by my post.

If I'm not expecting a call, and it's not from anyone I personally know, I don't answer the phone and let it go to messaging. If the call is legit, they'll leave a message.

I set my cellphone to block all calls that are not in my contact list, but I still get calls from everywhere. Of course, I do not answer them.
