Just got an email that the Echo and Echo Dot are on sale half off today only at Best Buy. Echo normally $179.99, today $89.99. I bought an Echo on Wednesday and paid full price; today I'm going in to get my $90 bucks back! :biggrin

The dot is only $39.

A lot of people don't understand the dot is the same as the echo, just much smaller speaker, but it does everything the full size Echo does. :)

I have a few echos and my sister has the dots and it seems like the dots are better and more sensitive in getting their attention as the Echo will sometimes not respond while the Dots will always respond. Probably because they don't use the same parts and the dot is more newer.

But man, the speaker in the Echo is awesome and room-filling for sure!

However the Dot has the ability to pair with a much better Bluetooth speaker or can be wired to your home audio system. The Echo does not have that feature that I know of.

You can pair phones and other items to the Echo. My issue with the Dot was that you would need to leave the bluetooth connected speaker on all the time or it would go into standby. Same with the wired 1/8 inch stereo cable; you'd have to leave your AVR or stereo connected 24/7 or the Dot wouldn't hear your voice. That's why I returned the Dot, got the Echo, and sold a JBL Flip 3 I had. The Echo covers all the bases now.

I need to edit that comment. It seems the one in the bedroom is overly sensitive since even though it is 50 feet away, it will respond to everything! While the other one seems to be deaf most of the time even after being replaced. Not sure is it because the bedroom one is near the corner walls so it reflects the sound while this one is at the open corner between two rooms with no walls to reflect the sound or not. I just know when I say "play KOST", it used to always play KOST 103.5FM Los Angeles on iHeartRadio but now it seems like playing the lottery as it say, playing X100 or something else... When I hear "Getting your KOST 103 point 5 FM Radio in Los Angeles" then I know it responded correctly. Both of them were originally deaf in responding and came with the black color adapters and replaced with the ones that had white color adapters.

I use one of these with the Dot. I can take it outside on the patio or in the garage with me. The Dot fits inside it and runs off the rechargeable battery built in the speaker.

VAUX Cordless Home Speaker + Portable Battery for Amazon Echo Dot Gen 2 Black/Carbon

Thanks for the tip. I returned my Echo, bought a new Dot for $34.99, and bought the VAUX speaker. Now I can pair it with the Hopper or Joey and stream SiriusXM outside.
