New Genie UI now in CE testing

Same for me. Got to about 76% and it failed to fully load.

And this keeps on happening to me as well, at least for 0-2-4-6-8 forced d/ls. Even on the latest NR rolling out 0x0D80 discussed in the other thread.

D/l on my HR54-500 snarls to an absurd crawl at about 62% advancing at only about 1% every 3-5 min. thereafter, to a complete stall in the 80-90% range causing the receiver to finally give up and timeout and start from 0% again.

Don't know what's wrong with it ...

Never had problems with forced d/ls on this box before ...

Still no luck for me on getting the HS17 to pull software from the satellite. They need to get this fixed asap.

Is this the cumbersome process you have to use to try and force a d/l from the satellite on the HS17?

It has to do with rebooting the DVR and then pressing the "Add Client" at just the right time. Mine was one big loop, went to 60 and slowed to a crawl till it got to 80, then went back to 0 and started again, and again ....
I've seen Ground Hog Day one too many times.

Yet it was sent out openly to anyone who was around to download it? They should have a done a private RID based push to people who signed NDA's. The one genie per home policy prohibits me from testing it because I don't have separate live and test environments.

Same problem I have, which is why I could no longer actively participate in the CE program. And not just for the Genie, as all receivers here are in use by family members for regular viewing.

So can't conveniently use any of them as a guinea pig for pre-release code testing.

I take it that this will not come to HR24? I only have one HR24 that I could spare for testing.

If you can't post pics, can you answer questions?

Is it more "flat" like everyone else is doing?

Is it very similar to DirecTV now?

Is the speed of operation better, the same, or worse?

Do you think it's a long time coming until it's ready for mainstream release? Like 6 months? A year? Two years?

IMHO it's very doubtful that any 'new' software will be coming to the non Genie boxes. Heck even the HR34 isn't getting the new UI and it didn't get the internal mobileDVR software.

From the rumors I've see no. Guess that's why DIRECTV is always pushing Genie and clients for new installs and upgrades.

Yep, ...

DIRECTV even pretty much said as much a couple of months ago when they strongly recommended I upgrade to the HS17 and 6 clients and ditch my current HR54 and 5 HR24s (plus a new 2 year recommt).

Look for no substantial changes or improvements to the present state of the HR24s.

The problem is no one likes clients here, so we're still holding off on it.

I don't know why they don't want pics posted. Its not like they are hiding things from DISH as I know a few DISH folks download the CE downloads each week... so its no secret.

Yeah and when Dish was doing the new Carbon UI, they let you showcase it long before it was rolled out. If anything it creates buzz and excitement. Two totally different companies in every way.

Yes, that is the only process to force d/l software on an HS17, outside of you being on some list that Directv pushes the software to you. Also, there is some conflicting info on it as some manuals say flashing yellow light and the manual submitted to the FCC says flashing white. Mine flash's white, d/l's the software then fails. Basically, you press the add client button when the light turns solid white right after initial bootup. It could be the easiest way of doing it if it actually worked and didn't fail. Way easier than doing 0,2,4,6,8. I REALLY WISH that Directv would do a cheater code where you enter CEdownloadOn in a search box and it adds you to a push list for CE firmware versions or a way to reboot and download the latest software via a command from a client.

I think it's because it's not fully ready to be shown off yet and they were looking for feedback on where to improve. I really like the look. I hope they get around to integrating Netflix, Hulu and other apps into it.

If you haven't seen the new guide, you're in for a disappointment. But it appears to show 7 channels at one time, if that's better. I have an illegal picture of it because something told me to save those pics that Directv made everyone take down. I was not able to DL it myself.
