Satellite won't be going away...
Just scaling back.

Back when,
Sat equip was expensive,
Realative to Cable/OTA.
BUT,
Very rural people had only 2 options,
Satellite or Nothing.

As the comparative cost of Satellite and Cable equalized,
Satellite expanded into Urban areas.

As Internet Streaming has recently come into play in the Urban settings,
Cable linear will move to OnDemand streamingm
And Satellite will return to Very Rural where nothing else is available.

Thankfully, streaming is at the head of True-A-La-Carte.
Paying/subscribing only for individual programs/channels (not packs/bundles).

I wonder how long it will take for the content providers to start demanding product bundling in their streaming contracts, just as they do with cable and satellite carriers.

They already do, one of the reasons why Vue dropped Viacom channels.

I don’t think satellite will be just for rural areas.. I say that because some cable companies equipment is so awful, satellite would be preferred. For example, Charter (in a legacy Time Warner Cable area) has the worse equipment imaginable. They don’t offer discounts for bundles for existing customers after the promo. You pay full price after that.. or cancel. Charter is my last choice for TV.

Since day one. Or perhaps more accurately bundling was a prerequisite, on a smaller scale, in the negotiations for getting any of these online services launched.

Internet based TV isn't for everyone. I have DSL 15mg (my only option) which is sufficient for streaming HD but during prime time when everyone is streaming, it gets overloaded and constantly buffering if not failing outright.
What service were you using that did this? I have experienced in the past on Directv Now and Sling. I have not on PS Vue, and honestly cant think of a time that I have with Hulu Live (although I have not used it enough to make a reasonable statement to that as a fact)

Thank you. So "True-A-La-Carte" is just a wish list entry with streaming, just as it is with sat programming...

You got that right about legacy Charter areas. I went 1.5 years ago from a VIP722k on Dish to Charter/Spectrum to save money, and the horrid Motorola 2 tuner dvr they gave me was like a Buck Rogers bottle-rocket, compared to the 722k. BIG step backwards in use and functionality. I did save money for the promo year, and then they UPPED my bill over $40, and absolutely refused to deal with me. So I packed up the dvr and such, took it back to their store, and canceled the tv part. I kept the 60/5 internet, which they then jacked that price UP for standalone to almost $15 higher. It's the only high speed I have available though, and there's NO hidden charges or modem rental.

Here I use the streaming Roku & Chromecast as add/ons as the channels I cannot get with Dish. Like the CNN Now app has CNN International. Since Ihave CNN through Dish, a provider I get their streaming app for free. Many other channels are the same way. Starz, Epix, HBO, are great to have streaming as it gives me "On demand" all for free since I have the channels through Dish. I would never drop Dish to go just streaming as we do have down times. The speed for Charter is decent at 45-55 via wifi. A direct connection gives me 60+. Living in a rural area, not much slow down in the speed either. No DSL available out here and even if it was, they offer 15-20 at the most for nearly what I pay for Charter. But the Roku gives me a lot of "extra" product and most of it is for free.
