I was at an install today that did not go so well... I'm fairly new to satellite installation. The company I work for recently-ish became DirecTV dealers. I've had next to no actual training... I've pretty much figured it all out on my own by much trial and error. Here's the skinny. I have a brand new dish setup that I have a slimline 3s LNB. The dish is located on a big pole shed. I have clear line of site, all the adjustments are set for my area, (tilt, elevation, azimuth). I'm using the DirecTV AIM meter. I've never had any problems with it until today. I connected the LNB to the meter, did a coarse adjustment of the azimuth until I got a locked signal. I then performed the dithering process successfully. When I went to perform the EIV. That failed. "X" across the board. At first I thought it might have been a bad LNB. Swapped it out with a new one... same thing. Failed EIV. I'm kinda at a loss... Is it possible that I am getting interference from all the metal in the building and the meter is locking onto a different satellite (i.e. the 110 or the 119) and it can't tell the difference? Any help is greatly appreciated.

to Satelliteguys FATGOAT!I'm assuming you were dithering 101, yes? Can you check the transponders to see which ones are active? You should show 32 active. If you have only 3 then you are on 110. If you have 10, then you are on 119.
I didn't think to do that... I'll check on that when I'm on site tomorrow. Thanks!

He has an AIM meter, if its showing locked, Your on the correct satellite.
It’s not like the old days where all your meter did was beep and you could be on 101/110 or 119 depending on the elevation and if you surface was level.
I’m almost positive the dish is bent or warped.
If everything looks good, clear line of site and you have you have followed everything to a T and made sure everything was level, it’s a bad dish.
I had 1 bent dish 2 weeks ago trying to save a few bucks for my girlfriend trying to get a new account with a used dish.
I had another one about a month ago a tried to assemble before going to a job that got shifted around.
I had another a year ago I dropped the dish while trying to assemble it on my front counter and accidentally dropped it.
Classic signs you get a lock with your aim meter. 101 comes in ok, but issues getting check boxes on 99 and 103.
You really do not need to dither very much or all with the newer dishes.
Just line up 101 the best you can, run EIV test, once passes, tighten rest of bolts and run EIV Again to check one last time.
The more solid Your mount, the easier to align.
