On my January bill show a new tax referred to as "Rental Tax" in the amount of $3.44.
After three telephone conversations, one online chat session and following link instructions from representatives, I remain ignorant of what this tax is.
I was told to follow mydish.com/support/taxes-charges where I was told I would find information about this tax. I was initially told it was a Federally implemented Tax.
After finding zero reference to a "Rental Tax" on the site i called again and was told it was a state implemented tax by Illinois. I am being told it is a one time tax and will not show up on any further bills.
Does anyone know about either an Illinois state tax or a federal tax implemented one time like this.I can find no legislation in Illinois referring to this new one time tax.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

This sounds like Dish is doing the same thing with the Illinois "Rental Tax" (if there is such a thing) that Directv does with the FCC fee. Note that Dish charges the FCC fee as $0.03 per month on every bill, so the billing is consistent each month. By contrast, Directv lets that same fee build up, and then tacks on some random charge on their subscribers' bills whenever Directv feels like charging it. If Dish is now doing the same thing with this Illinois tax, that would explain why it is a "one-time" charge, and you should not be surprised if this charge shows up again on some future bill, whenever Dish feels like doing so.

My December 12/21/17 Illinois bill does not show that rental tax. I will be on the lookout for it in the January bill.

So is it for Chicago only Illinois residents?

Will this apply to those of us who purchase our receivers? Or is this only for those that rent receivers from Dish?

It is possible that they would charge rental taxes on owned equipment, if you aren't paying attention you might miss it. I got a refund after I noticed and complained about it.

Just one more reason not to live in Illinois. No offense to those who do! High taxes, high gas prices. Only thing good things about Illinois are the slot machines in the gas stations, the Larry Flynt Hustler Club and the Casino Queen in Metro East St Louis :biggrin

PS I took that pic at a gas station in Effingham a few weeks ago

“Larry Flynt Hustler Club?”

I’m not sure I want to imagine what THAT’S like inside.

Do they even publish that magazine anymore?

On edit: Apparently so, barely. Seems to be expected to go under any day.

With all the Free porn available on the internet ,why would anyone pay for a magazine? But I read that Playboy magazine is shutting down soon.
