I'm finally getting an HR54 (with 3 Clints) Genie upgrade this coming Monday & I have some questions about the upcoming install.

I initially wanted an HR44 since it has the Composite Audio outputs directly available. The DirecTV Rep said the HR44 isn't available.

My current equip is:

HR22-100 & HR23 Receivers with the SL5 dish.

For my Audio output, I'm routing the HR22 composite Audio outputs to my main room Tuner/Receiver.

The HR22 HDMI output is directly connected to my 50" 1080p Plasma TV.

Regarding the HR54 & its Clients:

- Are the Audio outputs all active? In other words, can I connect the HR54 HDMI output to my TV's & still use the Audio outputs from the 10-pin HR54 output to my Tuner/Receiver?

- I currently have no 4k TV's. Are the HR54 & its Clients backwards-compatible with 720p, 1080i, 1080p TV's? I'm assuming I'll be getting either the C41 or C51 Client Boxes.

Internet install question:

I have a home Router with available ethernet expansion ports ready for the install. I requested to DirecTV that I want a 'wired' install with the HR54 & Clients. I don't use wireless Internet in my house.

- Will the HR54 install work with my Router located in a remote room? I read somewhere that the Internet signal can be injected anywhere into the Coax line that feeds the Clients in remote rooms. Is that true or does the Ethernet cable have to be directly run to the parent HR54 unit?

I have had my HR54 for a year and a half. It was self installed. I've had DTV to my home once in 20 years of use.
Answers are embedded in the quote.

There is a Optical Output on the receiver. To get a standard stereo output, you have to buy a dongle that will give RGB outputs too.

Yes

You can use either. the ethernet over coax connection saves running both coax & ethernet cables to a tv. I'm using it.

DO NOT GET THE CLIENTS!

keep your hr units, they will work with the genie for sharing recordings
its a better overall setup

a deca can be used to inject the internet
or a cat5 to the hr54

note there are issues with on demand, it may or may not work

I agree- Keep what you have and add the HR54- When using the Clients (mini's) for Live TV it will take a tuner away from the HR54 for recording - DO NOT give up your 2 tuner HDDVRs -also you will lose any saved content on them if that matters to you

IF you don't record much or use the other rooms that often -then remove the HDDVRS it's your choice

A wired lan connection can be made at the HR54 if not a cck can be added to your RG6 network at your router/switch location and a deca connection will work as well

Ive had my genie HR54-700 for about a month now. I kept my hr23 and HR24.
No issues so far.

Thanks for the info.

I have a question about the Internet connection to the HR54 Genie system:

Is it mandatory to have this connection included with a Genie install? I don't use "on demand" or pay per view movies, etc, and I've never had a 'Net connection installed with my original HR22 install.

Will a Genie install work without a 'Net connection present?

I would have the internet connect during the install - just make sure it is setup - then if you don't like it -disconnect it and later should you change your mind -it would be easy to reconnect
