First off is Cinemax. No app on any set top box that I can find. I remember a MaxGo app on either AppleTV 3 or Fire TV box some time back, but no more. Damned irritating. You have to airplay/cast from a mobile of one sort or another. And unlike HBO and some others, no way to subscribe to it other than as an add on.

Second is Epix - no way to subscribe to just Epix streaming. Only way is with some other streaming package that offers it as an add on.

If it is, Cinemax doesn't seem to know about it.

I installed HBO Go on my Roku 3 last weekend and there was no mention of Cinemax or any of its exclusive programming.
Cinemax is owned by HBO..They don't have a stand alone app for streamers..the 2 services share most programming so why bother

MaxGo remains unsupported on streaming devices.

As for Epix, they're rumbling about offering a standalone service:

Epix Announces 4K Plans, Eyes Standalone Video Subscription Service (EXCLUSIVE)

Anyone who thinks that going direct to customers is easy or economically beneficial needs to have their head examined.
I hope they do offer Epix as a standalone. My cable company had it for awhile in some markets, but it didn't garner enough subs for them to keep it. Or at least that was Mediacom's story at the time.

The oddity with MaxGO was that they did have an app at one time on a very few boxes, then suddenly they didn't.

The oddity is that Epix already has an app available, so they only need to set up subscription/billing to go standalone. You can get a free trial for a short bit of time now, you just can't keep it unless you subscribe via a cable/sat/iptv service.

Precisely for the programming that they don't share. HBO is too many channels playing HBO Original Series while Cinemax seems to have more theatrical movie and soft core adult variety.

Cinemax is typically cheaper for when your favorite series isn't running on HBO.

Plenty of softporn on HBO app..movies eventually show up on both channels

Authentication through someone else's system is surely a lot easier than maintaining your own. Subscriptions, billing and collections is a lot harder than people give it credit for. Then there's the issues surrounding support of direct customers that can't figure out how to pay their bills or log in to the service.

You can sub to Cinemax through PS Vue as a standalone without subbing to a full channel package.

Didn't know that.
But it doesn't change the issue. MaxGo like all the other channel specific streamers primary value is being able to watch series, either old or new. A live channel is great, but since VOD is hit or miss on all too many cable/sat providers, it is nice to be able to have it regardless of whether the cable/sat provider has extensive VOD.

Get a Chromecast and you can mirror it from a laptop or pc...Will it work? Ehh

This ain’t my first rodeo. I currently use my old iPad mini to airplay to my appltv, but it is a 2nd rate method imo. If ther was an actual app for the set top boxes it would be better video and audio.
Could be a private channel available thru nefarious sources
