ME TV On Dish

Weigel started MeTV full time in 2005 on WWME 23 and is located in Chicago. They also own WCIU 26 known as “The U” in Chicago as well as subchannels Decades, Heroes and Icons, and Movies! MeTV airs on WWME 23 and also on WCIU 26.3 in Chicago and has been available on cable and satellite for several years.

But they didn't launch nationally until 2010.

About Us

It's too bad they downgraded it from HD to SD. The PQ on 247 isn't bad for SD but isn't as good as the OTA PQ.
I agree. I have Metv on an HD ota station in 720p and I compared it to the satellite version on 247 on Star Trek last night. The sat version looked faded in comparison and a little jerky when they moved on screen. The ota version was bright ,colorful and they moved normally with no jerkiness.

I have the same experience. Additionally, since the OTA channel in my area broadcasts METV in the HD that was transmitted to them, the SD programs have smaller black bars and the HD programming comes through in full 16.9 format. The Dish version has either large black bars or everything is stretched (depending on your settings) resulting in a significantly poorer PQ. Dish needs to upgrade METV to at least HD light.

I have a friend that does not have OTA and he was looking forward to METV. For some reason his picture is not even 4:3. It is more like a square. His TV set doesn't really do well with stretch, he is unhappy with it. If Dish cannot offer the channel in HD, then at least switch to Widescreen.

That's because MeTV is stretching, zooming and cropping their feed, and then when Dish sends that feed as a 4:3 SD window, everything looks squished, including the small black bars on the sides. Butchered feed in, worse feed out.

I don't understand how my playback looks fine and the same as my OTA 5.3, while everybody else claims it's squished. I'm on EA.

Here is how it looks for me on the eastern arc.

After reading this discussion, I had to check out Me TV. I am on eastern arc and the picture looks just like what Scott posted above. It is not distorted at all...looks like normal 4:3 to me.

Regarding the various comparisons offered here between the Dish METV and the OTA version, could it be due to some stations offering METV on HD sub channels while others use SD sub channels? The OTA sub channel I receive METV on is HD and the METV PQ is noticeably superior to the Dish version. However, the PQ for 4:3 programming is practically the same between the two except for the larger black bars on the Dish version.

MeTV Dish 247,
The non-standard OTA aspect is squeazed to fit 4x3 sd,
Making everything off ratio.
The 1st zoom option makes the aspect match the OTA.
pics from different shows due to programming schedule offset between OTA/Dish feeds.

I'm on Eastern arc and I just rechecked Metv on 247 and now I see the picture is not stretched to fit the screen anymore. I have black bars on programs that were in Sd 4 x 8 . Wasn't like that Saturday night when I did comparisons between my ota and sat version. The movement is still jerky though.

For the show that is on now, Big Valley - (And then for Gunsmoke)
Both EA and WA on channel 247 it is squeezed unless I put to stretch that is both for 4:3 and "Normal HD"- Stretching makes it look correct and not fully stretched - looks like OTA.
No local in Ct as Scott says but in Tampa the local displays it filling about 3/4 of the screen, looks like DISH when on stretch and can not be changed. (480I) That is either on OTA on the DISH receiver or OTA on Tivo.

However, as I type this the commercial displays correctly on DISH - when on 4:3 it displays as it should and when on stretch it is stretched.

ALSO - some commercials are in letterbox OTA and not on DISH

Yep, that is what I see here as well for my OTA. Partially stretched and zoomed to a 14:9 ratio, which crops the top and bottom a bit. I don't have 247, but I can send pics of my OTA 30.2 and my Dish local channel 32.
