Will be Going With Dish Soon

Top 200 may be the best package of any provider particularly at the new customer or existing customer discounts.

I like that package and have decided to go with the hopper. Even after the prom ends , it’s still less than a comparable package from Directv. I had Directv for nine years

Excellent. Because it is perhaps the #1 post I see when first getting a Hopper, give it a day maybe two for all the features to work correctly.

Good choice getting a Hopper 3. Good luck with the Vizio. I got a 32" LCD in 2009 and have been really impressed with it. It is still going strong with no issues. Bought two more Vizios in 2015 and haven't had good luck with them. I know of another person that is having the same exact issue with his Vizio TV. No more for me. The last I heard Vizio was no longer going to have an OTA tuner in their TVs. I quit tracking Vizio TVs so not sure if that is true or not. So if OTA tuner is important to you be sure and check it out. I just feel so strongly against Vizio TVs now I just wanted to pass it along. I think LG, Samsung, or Sony is the way to go. Just my opinion. Good luck to you and you will really enjoy your Hopper 3.

But all that’s changing with the 2018 Vizios That’s why I’m waiting . They listened to the customers and are putting the tv tuner back into all 2018 models. Also no longer need to use a tablet or smartphone as a remote. Smart cast is there to use as an option. No longer controls like it did before. A whole lot of other exciting things going on with Vizio TV . I want. 70 in M series but they don’t have them yet. I asked Vizio to let me know when they come in. I can’t wait. I use to have a 32 in . The power supply went out and I wouldn’t fix it because I wanted a larger screen but by then Vizio had made all these changes and I wouldn’t have one. But they woke up and doing all the right things ad I cannot wait to get one.

WOW, that's good news. Make sure the M series Vizio has HDR. When I got my 4K Vizio it did not have HDR. I bet you are excited getting a Hopper 3 and new TV. Hope it all goes good for you and please let us know how goes it.

That TV tuner will be good for at least five years. There are no commercial to the public ATSC 3 broadcasts today, and probably won’t be this year at all. Then there’s a several year phase in process.

Maybe ten years.

Normally I would agree, but there is an agenda at play by the broadcasters. I think 3-5 and they’ll be lighthousing ATSC1.0. I think when they go to lighthouse them the quality won’t be worth watching.

That tv tuner may be useless in a couple years as OTA moves to ATSC 3.0

I won’t be using it anyway as long as I have locals in my package. I just want it there and by the time the ATSC comes and going strong , maybe then I’ll get a tv with it instead.

Good point.

I dropped Directv a couple of years ag and have not had cable or satellite since. Streaming is okay but there is a lot I miss about paid TV. Too I really think those streaming packages and Internet will rise until the cost is less ke paid TV. Anyway I have decided to go with Dish in a month or so. Maybe sooner. Just as soon as the 2018 Vizios come out and I get a 70 inch. Vizio is putting the TV tuner back and also you can stream directly from an app without using a smartphone. A lot of other good changes. Can’t wait to get mine. Here is the link. It is very interesting.

Vizio courts cord cutters, challenges OLED, and adds new HDR options to its 2018 smart TV lineup
Just curious what you mean by "streaming directly from an app" - I think that's the definition of all "smart-tv's" today, but if I'm wrong, I'm sure we'll find out soon ;)

I’m sorry. I meant from an app on your smartphone , as you use to have to use it as a remote when Vizio made all these crazy changes back in 2014. But thank heavens the all the new 2018 models and series are going back to the traditional way with the use of a TV remote, all with a tv tuner and Chromecast will be an option to use or not to use.

Vizio did a firmware upgrade last year on 2016 and 2017 4K models that added the some apps back to the TV so you didn't have to use the tablet remote. I have a 2016 P75-C1 that works just fine. Of course it doesn't have a tuner but my plan is to add an external ATSC3 tuner when it comes into existence.

I think she either doesn't understand or isn't explaining it clearly. If DTV ran cable, then that cable is good for a Wally - which has no real cable requirements other than be RG6 - although I have use good RG59 that was pre-run with no problems. Also, there are so many mounting options for the Dish, I dunno, I guess I'm missing something. Like Tampa8 said, there's no reason to use everything on a Wally and no extra charge, just because it's part of the Wally.

I have both Dish and Directv cable in my house. The people who lived here before me had Dish and then I got Directv , so both cables are here . Run through the attic down into the coat closet in the living room. All cable was here when I moved here. Directv just hooked me up by using the cable here. The satellite dish that Dish brought was smaller than the regular size satellite dish from Directv. My satellite dish is the same size as all my neighbors , just a regular size Dish , but the satellite dish brought by Dish Network was hardly bigger than the size of a pie pan . No kidding either No I would not have it .
