Remote timer backup/restore

With my H3 timer problems, I tried to backup my timers and restore them, just to see if that would fix anything.

I backed up to my remote, then restored, and all was gone. I have 3 other remotes. I then tried to restore from my main remote, but it said my batteries were low, so I changed them and restored and still nothing...

How is it supposed to work? If you backup, does it go to all remotes? If you change the batteries, is the backup lost?

When I upgraded from a Hopper 1 to a Hopper 3 I backed up my Hopper 1 to the remote and then had the tech pair the old remote to the Hopper 3 and do a restore. At first it looked like it did not work until I reset the Hopper 3 and all my timers showed up.

The original purpose for the Backup and Restore of timers, lists, and some other settings was for the data to be RESTORED on a replacement STB, not necessarily to the very same box from which you backed-up. I can report that for the intended purpose of RESTORING to a replacement/new STB, it has worked well for me and others over the years.

Now, if you had somehow wiped or re-initialized your box, maybe it would RESTORE to the original box. However, in my experience, it has NEVER RESOTED to the orginaly box from with it backedup--since there was no problem with it in the first place.

Sorry, best answer I can give you. I think you are attempting to use it in a manner for which it was not designed. FWIW, the system will automatically back up a every few days, so in most cases, even the tech challanged need not manualy go through the backup process.

My timers did not restore from Hopper 2's. Don't know if that is your issue or not.

My brother just had the same experience when he upgraded from H2 to H3 last week. No timers came thru when we tried to restore from the H2 remote.

Check in the morning to see if your timers show up. If not, try another restore. One of my H3s timers was slow to show up.
Thank you very much. But I am getting failure errors. I'm hoping that with a little time it'll work. I'm over drunked and Xanaxed after today to be able to worry about it anymore. PLUS I miss The Derby Party that I was hosting.

Any additional help will be appreciated greatly.

Any luck getting your timers restored to your new Hopper 3s?

"YES!!!"
This how I did it. After many errored attempts. After inquiring was told to wait, but I was anxious. Took many Xanax that day.
Disclaimer: May not work for everyone. But I hope it does!! AND I did it at 2am about 9-10 hours after the boxes where activated.
1. Set the boxes to do Nightly Update ASAP. Love the new "set it as you like" time update feature. Couldn't tell if they had done it. But it was a good hour after it should have. They are really quiet now when they do the update. But the one in my media room the drive itself is noisy when running. WHICH I have heard it be quiet, so that tells me they finally let these things let the drives "sleep" maybe?
2. Unpaired the 54 remote. Read that having both remotes paired that the same time may add confusion to the process for the box.
3. Paired the 40 remote.
4. Power Cycled the box.
5. Went to the Tools area and did the "Restore Settings" for the remote and it worked like a dream. Very quick and when it was done one box wanted to set up some feature that I didn't need and canceled, the other just reverted to the program that was on. No indication that it worked, other than NO error messages.

I checked the timers area and they were all there. I nearly cried. And they started to work almost immediately. Things that were set to record within 12 hours of the boxes going on line, did. I was expecting to have to screen shoot and manually reenter them on two boxes. As I have in the past. I was mortified that I wouldn't be able to get Grandma's timers back in time.

Too bad the Box-to-Box recording transfer doesn't work. I was planning on that, but it was logically detailed by Tech #3. Thank goodness that when I last bought hard drives (4 4TB for my Mac editing station) I grabbed a 2TB. I had a feeling I'd need it. Well I will. Gotta get on that. Although I'm trying to find out what those that are saying to do it in blocks, what the "blocks" are?

Thanks for following up. I really appreciate it.

I 'm glad you got them there timers restored.

That is unfortunate. When I upgraded from H2 to H3, it worked perfectly--HOWEVER, I do remember when we upgraded to the HWS, it did NOT restore. Perhaps this feature is one that fails more often than it should? I can also recall when RESTORE did work for my aunt's upgrade, but then did NOT restore on a subsequent RMA of the very same model, and it SHOULD have restored.
