So for a couple of weeks thus far my Hopper 3 has been randomly rebooting. Now here's the mysterious part of this whole thing... It reboots every day and only in the morning, around every hour & 15 minutes. And the last one is always before 12pm. Does not do any more reboots after that. For example this morning when I had the TV on it rebooted 8:55am, 10:10am, 11:25am and no more after that. And no it's not the automatic reboot, I have that set to 3 am and it does that fine. I tried all what Dish said... reboot/plug directly in wall, etc. Nothing fixes this. It does it every single day. The last update did not fix it either. Any ideas out there or should I just demand a replacement Hopper? Thanks in advance!

Ok, you're gonna think this is stupid but this is happening on a lot of Hopper 3's apparently and this seems to be the fix. Swear to God

We had a ton of TCs generated the last few months with hoppers resetting randomly, but more specifically during the local news. The solution engineering came up with was to enable CC and scroll to the bottom of the list and change the default 1 to 0 and then turn CC back off. It fixed the rebooting issues for all of our customers. Worth a shot for you too. Hope its helpful.

Ok I just did that. I will reply to this post to let you know if it works or not. Fingers crossed and thanks for letting me know! Jay

Mine has been rebooting 3-4 times a day for about 2 weeks. I did a chat with Dish today and they are sending me a replacement.

Nope that did not fix it. Right on schedule with the mystery reboots, 9am. Next one will be around 10:15am.

Is there something nearby that disrupts your electrical grid at those times. Spikes or voltage drops can cause a reboot.

Another thing I read about is voltage being erroneously sent through the hdmi connection. That sounds like a reach to me, but.....

Alot of the of focus of the problem can be ellimated by unplugging the HDMI cable in the Morning and see if it still reboots. If it does not there something the TV is doing in the Morning to cause it. If it does it's the hopper that is doing something or tuning to something in the Morning that is doing it, or something in the power into or at the house in the morning.

Did it to me around 1:15am this time. It was towards the end of watching a DVR recording. Screen just went black for around a minute. Sounded like the internal hard drive was struggling. Took a while for it to actually reboot.

My Hopper 3 rebooted several times a day for the past couple of months. First call into Dish they had me do a complete reset by having the tech guy log into my hopper. That did not work and I called back a week later and they mailed me out a new hopper3. I swapped out the boxes on my own and so far, so good.

Did you try test out in post #9 & 10?
No for both. Wifi was not turned on anyway on the TV because the damn TV Wifi never worked with my router for some reason. I could not do the HDMI pull because my wife was watching TV this morning. Interestingly enough, for some reason it didn't even reset this morning other than the 1:15 am reboot. I went to bed shortly after that so I am not sure if it rebooted again after that. Hoping this just magically fixed itself now.

If it starts rebooting again, try changing your power settings so that the Hopper never turns off.
This is just an idea.

And now they made so it automatically reboots every day/night based on what time you set. That setting cant be diabled. If you manage to skip the reboot you get an anoying message pop up every 30-60 minutes untill it forces it anyway.

I'm not talking about the daily reboot. I mean the power saver setting that turns the Hopper off when you're not using it. I turned that off years ago.

My Hopper 1 has been doing this. My wife is the chronic victim. The kids don't get hit, and I downgraded everything, so have been watching most of my programming at family members homes (sports). I share my Internet streaming accounts with them in trade.

On a side note, I'm glad that I skipped the Celtics game last night for Westworld.
