Last time I was with DISH I didnt have this problem but hopefully you pros can get me back on track.

Installation was yesterday. I have a Vizio SB4051-CO sound bar hooked up to my Hopper 3 via HDMI and Optical. The Hopper is hooked to an HDMI port on the TV and the sound bar is hooked up from the TV to the sound bar via optical port.

Would have liked to use the CEC-ARC but unless you have a Samsung sound bar this high end Samsung doesn’t play well with ARC. It worked for a few hours and when I got up this morning the ARC from TV to sound bar was dead again. Using the 54 remote the sound bar would neither come on or go off once manually turned on. Going off isn’t really a problem since it eventually shuts itself off when it loses a signal anyway.

Now that I’ve got all the background out of the way my simple question is how do I get my 54 to turn my sound bar on and off? It’s handling the volume up and down just fine once I get it turned on but, I don’t relish having to use two remotes and I surely don’t want to fool with the Harmony’s again. I’ve been into the remote settings and made the necessary adjustments but I find nothing about controlling accessories power. Thanks

Pressing the AUX button on the left side of the remote then the power button should work. Don't forget to press the SAT button to go back to satellite mode.

Better for sure because it doesn’t require two separate remotes. I appreciate this. Now if I could just figure out if there is a way to do this without using CEC-ARC. It worked fine that way for about 12 hrs!

Also make sure you have Limited mode turned off for your remote in settings.

It is definitely turned off.

Did you plug in your Vizio soundbar into the remote setup?

Yup, the remote settings show:

Auxiliary Device: Vizio
Vol and mute buttons: Control aux dev vol
Limited mode: off

Appreciate all the suggestions and input

I had the same brand sound bar and I had to use my DISH remote learn the remote buttons on sound bar remote on AUX. I never found a code that would work.

For now I can deal with an extra two button pushes. Much cheaper than buying a new sound bar! Thanks for all the replies.

HDMI-ARC and HDMI-CEC are two different things. Does the soundbar accept HDMI-CEC on the HDMI IN port? If so, doesn't the Hopper3 have HDMI-CEC support? That might work. Worth a try anyway.
