Both of my Hopper3 receivers have been offline for 3 weeks while they redid my roof. Now that my satellite dish is remounted I now have satellite service again. In the past I would power off the TV using the 54 remote. Rather than wait 5 minutes for the Hopper3 to power off, I would use an audio command “Power Hopper Off” with my 54 remote to power off the Hopper3. This used to work on both of my Hopper3 receivers. Now it does not work on either Hopper3 receivers. Other audio commands still work.

"That's interesting." I was hoping that you could get Alexa to do it and how would it? I see the Voice Command panel come up with certain commands, maybe that could be one?

I just tried it on one of my H3's and it works! Now only if my TV would cooperate I could shut everything down with a voice command.

That is interesting that it still works for you. I looked at all of my Hopper3 settings and I don’t see any changes.

The Alexa commands still work with my Hopper3. Alexa never had a command to power the Hopper3 off.

Voice commands from my 54 remote still work for searches, tune to channel, DVR, PTAT, pause, and resume. But power Hopper off no longer works.

Sorry I meant to add, (was using my Tablet which I hate typing on and Voice Typing everyone thinks I'm talking to myself, which I do all the time, but not as intelligently as when typing) all I said was "Turn Off!" and the box went into "Sleep Mode" without the 5 minute countdown. Which I have read it was there in case you wanted to jump back on with a device at another location. It "holds your place". I have noticed and "think" that the box watches the TV closer now since it turns off sooner if the TV is off? Someone know anything about this?

I wasn't able to find an Alexa (mine's called Echo, wanted to call it "Bob", because of all the TV programming where they purposely mess with our Alexa's and buy stuff for us) command to do it since "She" says that "DISH doesn't support that". Well it's apparent that DISH does support that and it's probably the Alexa "Skill" that is where it's lacking. A lot of the "Skills" are lacking (severely) in very fundamental ways. I'm finding that Echo has issues with a lot and with DISH. She gives me many hours of convoluted mental conversations as to how worthless she is and that she needs to call the "Mothership" and let them know. They already know. I'll get an eMail from Amazon asking to discuss the issue further or to quit harassing Alexa (Bob).

Maybe someday . . . fingers crossed . . . cuz that would be so cool since I already have the house running off it, to set off a scenes to the lighting, TV, AVR and Box with one command.

“Turn Off” works!!!
They must of changed the command. Thank You.

You are quite Welcome!!

I have learned and prefer to keep my verbal interaction brief and concise. It's usually the only way things work.

I have noticed a change in voice commands recently as well. The normal command, "channel X" or "go to channel X" work normally. However, with guide open, a channel command will change the viewed channel instead of changing the channel guide. In other words, the channel command works the same whether or not the guide is open.

You're right! Thanks for pointing that out. I have been wanting a way to do that on Dish receivers, and I even suggested that as a feature at one point. I always found it handy on Directv receivers, being able to change the channel on the picture in the corner of the guide without leaving the guide. It is nice to see Dish finally implementing this, even if it is a round-about way through voice command, instead of just going all the way to the left in the guide and selecting the block with the channel name and logo, like you can on Directv receivers.

Well I don't like it! I liked it when you changed channels on the guide w/o changing the picture in the corner. Now I have to use the remotes buttons to see what's on another channel w/o changing what I am watching.

Agreed. I much prefer to use voice to control the guide whenever it's open and to change channels when it's not. The current method seems a step backwards.
