U527 new software on hopper 3 DVR

Good thought: 1920x1080p/60

It upconverts everything to UHD, so I guess it doesn't distinguish between 1080i and 1080p.

My H3 is fed to a receiver then Scaled 4K to my Sony which always displays 3840X2160p4K. So, I can't verify because I don't really care what the Guide resolution is as long as it looks good. I took a Before (U526) & After (U527) picture to see if it did indeed improve. YES, the #s & Letters are Crisper almost seems like a narrower sized Font (Less Blur). I'm Happy> Yer Happy> We're All Happy!... At least I think we all are?...LOL!

According to the people at DISH who provided the software it's 1080p. I think I'll believe them instead.
Suit yourself. My TVs show what the source actually is not what the TV upconverts. It's can't be 1080p anyway because the TV previews are there and they are not 1080p and even going from regular TV to Guide or what not does not do a resolution change. When we had the Olympics on the 4K channel the Guide was super clear and bright, TV showed the 4k resolution on everything including guide as long as I was still on that channel showing the 4k program. If there was a channel that was 1080p it would actually be 1080p for the guide and everything else. It's definitely clearer and brighter than before now that I have been looking at it long enough and it's possible they did change it to 1080p on their end but it will input to us as 1080i because the channels are 1080i. There is no change in resolution on the Hopper 3 or Joey 4k when going from a 1080i HD channel to the guide or anything else unless you are watching a 4k channel or a 1080p steaming program. As I said though, it could be and very well is a change in resolution on their end which ends up giving us the best 1080i we could get (sans if they did that in 4k) especially if our TVs upconvert.

It's an updated source resolution, not a change in output resolution - that depends on your Hopper setting.

And that sounds like the logical answer. Thank you. :)

Pay very close attention to what patmurphey said in the first quote. It answers the question perfectly!

Could you tell me how you got your EHDs to work. I have two EHDs that work only when they want to which has been quite rare lately.
Could you tell me what EHD's you have. I've got one WD 2tb with power.(which works perfectly) I also have a newer WD with 2tb but can't it to work. All it says on my Hopper2/sling is that I have a EHD connected and that's as far as it gets.

One WD 2TB MyBook, and one WD 2TB MyBook Essential.

I didn't do anything special at all. I have a 2TB WD MyBook and a 1TB Maxtor connected to my Hopper 3 with a USB hub. Both of the drives are self powered but the hub is passive. Every once in a great while one or both aren't in the Sources list but a red button reset brings them right back.

I have a 2 TB WD MyBook on my Living Room Hopper3 and a 2 TB WD MyBook and a WD MyBook Duo RAID on my Family Room Hopper3. I rarely ever lose any of them. I had a very old 2 TB WD MyBook that did not have SMART build into the firmware. I stopped using it because I noticed that the Hopper3 would do an external drive check that would take several hours each night. The newer drives have SMART build into their firmware and the Hopper3 does not do the external drive test on them. My guess is that the Hopper3 would query the drive during the nightly reboot and since the old drive did not have SMART it would not pass. Of coarse that is my assumption. I don’t know if that is the case.

Just updated to u527. The guide looks very sharp. Also noticed that the display didn’t blink dark then come back up like it used to immediately after turning it on.

I fired up the World Cup I still have and what a difference! AND my TV now says HDR UHD 3840x2160/60p and the Guide is NUTZ! If only it were close to that normally. So it's official, the box can do 4K UHD HDR, so why not 4K with Netflix & YouTube?!

For higher end resolutions there is only one setting: 4K, 1080p, or 1080i. No need for the , after the p. So you are at the mercy of what the box output is. And I am getting 1080i for HD programming and the Guide. I'm not seeing a better guide. But it pops in 4K HDR!
