Hi, cancelled Dish and they told me to recycle the unit at the nearest recycling center- Best Buy.. Just wanted to confirm if the 722k is obsolete, are they no longer being used? Seems like a waste to throw away a completely working receiver.

Still using a 722k and a 211k...they work just fine and I'm quite happy with them (other than the Hopper screensaver advertising). Someday I'll get a couple of Hopper Duo's to replace them...
Duos are junk, IMO. I think they were a waste of money, but regardless, you won't get "a couple of Duos" at the same address. If you have more than 2 TV's, you're getting a Hopper and Joeys

A year ago when I moved and upgraded from a 722 to HWS and wireless Joeys I was required to send the 722 back to Dish. PIA, had find the box and then take it to UPS.

Thanks for the info, HipKat. I'll being doing more research in due time. Just out of curiosity, why are Duos "junk"?
I'll start... No dish anywhere, small hard drive, only two tuners.. Dish should be giving them to customers with only ONE tv, not two. Installing them, they like to not correctly show what satellites the dish is pointed at, which is a time killer for techs, having to reset and rerun check switch a bunch with our fingers crossed...

Two Sat tuners, and with an upgrade a couple of OTA tuners as well. A lower box fee, and a great programmable universal remote. Continue to be so happy with the 722k. The only thing that is a pain is the 1970's like VOD screens, but otherwise, not losing it until it has lost it.

Let me see, where is that little critter is sent to TheKrell. I may need it here again.....

Duos do everything the 722k does but faster, better, cooler, and waaaay quieter. Exception is the DA app doesn't connect to a Duo. I don't get the love for 722s, they are obnoxiously loud, run so hot they can melt themselves, are super slow, and OnDemand doesn't work.

Well, for one, it doesn't have the CUI - Cartoon User Interface.

Dish Pass
List view
4x FF/RW
and more.

Heat is the only issue, easily solved with a small quiet USB fan on the exhaust vent. It actually quieted the unit down, because the loud internal fan didn't have to work as hard.

Bottom line, the Hopper/Duo is a more modern, faster, multi-functional receiver. But for pure DVR use, the 722 is more reliable and functional.

I was VERY happy with my ViP722s. Moved to HWSes. MUCH happier.

But I do miss 4x and Dish Pass. I wonder if Charlie negotiated those away. Make the DVR function less useful? SMH.
