Fox Regional Sports Networks Block DISH and Sling TV Customers

I applaud Dish for trying to fight to keep carriage fees down, but at the end of the day, I'm going to choose a provider that gives me the channels I want, and losing Fox Sports Detroit is a big one for me. I can live without HBO by getting it on streaming, but I watch the Tigers, Wings, and Pistons all on FSD. Do I now need to subscribe to 3 different leagues' streaming services? I live in an area with excellent internet, good OTA reception, and 4 TV providers (Dish, DirecTV, Comcrap, and Uverse). I like Dish and love the Hopper 3, but if I'm not getting the channels I want, I will make the switch, and I must admit Dish's picture quality is a factor, too.

One other question that I probably already know the answer to, but, has anyone ever used one of these carriage disputes to get out of a contract without paying ETFs?

I don't mind subscribing to the league streaming services, the problem is if you live in the home area of your favorite team the games are blacked out due to the contracts with the RSNs. That may change in the future as the RSN contracts come up for renewal but for now it kind of sucks. Luckily for me the Air Force has seen fit to station me away from my home town so watching the Cubs, BlackHawks, Brewers, and Bucks via the league services works just fine.

It would be hard to use the dispute to get out of the contract when the contract covers takedowns directly.

I’ve been without the Astro’s and Rockets here in houston for sometime after the failed team network attempt.

We could get rangers games on FSSW before the takedown - but that really doesn’t serve a need.

So we’ve long since moved on from regional sports network.

We, my 8 year old son and me, listen to games when we have time, but mostly follow on MLB.com. It’s a great app...

MLB needs to step in and remove the regional black out for our local sports team. We’d definitely sub to an online package.

Not interested in switching television providers.

For those that just cannot live without Fox Sports, put Dish on Pause and try out one of the streaming services then cancel when Dish settles with the RSNs, easy to do since there are no contracts with the OTT Services.

I'm glad my RSN isn't part of this, but if I were to put my account on Pause I'd likely lose my 2 year price lock and preferred customer DVR rate.

I live in Hawaii. I will never be able to visit a major league ballpark in our area but we are considered California for our RSN's.
I subscribe to MLB.TV to watch the Yankees and Mets. I do not give 2 s**** about any of the California teams. But now - if my teams play either of the Giants, Athletics, Dodgers, Padres in California I am blacked out for those games on MLB.TV.
We're not even into hockey season yet.
DISH has my account blocked for any kind of compensation because I got some sweet discounts in the past so this really stinks.
I've been a DISH customer for at least 18 years here in Hawaii and several years back in Oregon. but this kind of stuff is starting to make me look for alternatives once my current Hopper upgrade contract expires.

After my last comment, waited on phone for over an hour to speak with DISH and eventually got a loyalty rep.

The original CSR said that to make up for this she could give me $30 credit for 1 month. Got transferred to the loyalty rep and was told I was not allowed to get that credit. I asked about a movie credit. I was told I was not allowed a movie credit. I was told I could get free sports pack - but the sports pack no longer has the RSN's that have been removed!
So, the best I could get as far as remuneration was 3 free months of Showtime even though I was already getting this for $5 month promo.

Directv is out 6 Channels in the Springfield, IL Market. Have fun with an alternative. Channel disputes happen to everyone and if Dish gave in, your bill goes up - probably a lot to cover it. I'm a Sports maniac. If I miss a Bills game, it's a really bad thing.

Wait, no it's not because I can either stream the game (Which I normally do) or listen on SiriusXM while I get other things done. Hell, I never missed a Sabres game til I moved to Illinois, where I almost never get to see one, and I'm still alive. I'm not trying to belittle you, I'm just saying, the world still turns without Baseball - and there are already Alternatives in the meantime to catch the games

We are Dish fans and have no intension of leaving. However this problem with Fox RSC has cause issues. My wife is a Minnesota Twins fan. She never misses a game and the team is doing quite well this year.

We decide to stream Hulu Live that carries Fox RSN. With only two months of the season left we decided we would bite the bullet and pay for two months of Hulu. If Dish does not carry Fox RSC next season we would most likely do the streaming again and keep dish with a lesser programming package like the Flex Package.

I wish I was in your shoes and had options to get rid of this pos company. I either deal with Dish and their garbage service or have nothing.

I just signed up for Youtube TV. Two weeks free. I can now watch the Cincinnati Reds and other STO programing. I have the app on my Ipad and use Google Chromecast to send it to my big screen. So far so good.
At least it gives me a couple weeks to see how this all plays out.

Youtube TV is excellent if you have good broadband speed. The best of all the streamers for price and content, IMO

Write the attorney general and ask Dish for a signed copy of your contract.

Unless they let you out of the contract out of the goodness of their heart, those are probably your best 2 options.

Or just try out a streaming service without cutting Dish back. It may cost you a few extra bucks, but you will have Dish as well as the RSN's. I did that when Dish lost HBO. I still have HBO. In fact there are a lot of cheap streaming services you can check out.

But seriously I think in a few years the whole bottom is going to drop out of the professional sports market.

Streaming is killing traditional cable, and going to get to the point where the providers are only going to agree to a la carte

It’s just dumb that we continue to pay these so called professional athletes millions of dollars to play a game.

Let them have to get jobs in the winter selling used cars again.

Seriously, every household in America who subscribes to cable television should not be paying in some cases a $5-$8 regional sports fee every month, which goes to pay these players salaries.

There is no reason why any of these teams need a 100 or 200 million dollar pay roll.

Professional athletes should be making $50,000 per year, and if they are really good they can make money with sponsorship opportunities.

If the players want to go on strike, F em. I’m sure every college athlete who is not being paid would be glad to play for the NFL or MLB.

We would probably loose every professional athlete who plays in the 4 major sports today, but just like there are people lined up that are willing to sell Dish, there is no shortage of talent to play professional sports.

Yes athletes do get too much probably, but the whole blame is the owners who agree to these high contracts. You can't blame the players,if my boss comes in today and says I want to triple your salary, am I going to say I'm not worth it , I just want to keep living paycheck like I do now.
