New DISHANYWHERE Player Discussion

Hi Folks, here is a follow up to my Dish Anywhere web player change post. Upon further exploration it is clear, Dish Network has abandoned their previous development team and their code base and chose to OEM the Bitmovin HTML5 player. Since Bitmovin player was designed for strictly OTT streaming applications, and not Broadcaster DVR or Satellite services, it has NONE of the usual functions that Dish's own development team worked hard to develop. Its a basic HTML5 stream player. So, Dish got rid of a bunch of developers, paid some minimal fee to Bitmovin and screwed their subscription customers. Yes, HTML5 player is the way to go but Dish product people have to do their job in defining market requirements for the new implementation and not just re-skin a cheap player. But, this move is consistent with Dish's lack of care about their customers. F

I thought it went away the end of THIS year.

Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys App. For now.

My understanding is that most of the employees who worked on the original Dish Player site haven't been with the company for years (and were actually Sling employees before DISH / Echostar purchased them.)

Which explains why they are not working on the new site, which again uses new technology and gets rid of the old technology.

Keep the feedback coming of how to improve the DishOnline website as the team is watching and taking notes. They are not done with the new site by any means. :)

The pause and scroll won't go away on the bottom of the screen.

I am surprised at some belligerent comments I just saw after my posts. Bad implementation of a software product and lack of customer care has nothing to do with which player technology you use. To give more light to the Flash belligerent person, Bitmovin player has been available to Broadcasters since 2015. Many top tier broadcasters have been using it long ago. If you are suggesting that Dish had to suddenly switch from Flash (which is simply not true), that is a pathetic excuse.

To dish support, 1- definitely missing the LIVE TV button.
2- Missing the Recall option!
3-The red progress bar really needs to go or fade away. It cuts across most channel banners etc..

"In previous version, there was a control pad as part of the Dish Anywhere player where you could enter the number of the channel you want to watch, jump back to previous channels, etc. None of this is available now"
Need this back please! (Dish Support):thumbup

I just tried it again on my Chromebox (Chrome Browser) and in either the "small size" (with all the tabs of the browser showing at the top) or after clicking full screen, , they fade after 5 seconds.

Ahhhh but a big exception. My test was bringing up a previously recorded show and it worked as it should. But I just tried watching a show live from the guide and THAT leaves the line up as TigerWoodsLibido said. Since it works like it should on the DVR, I imagine the "live" player is a bug easily corrected (I hope!)

Now for MY gripes: I would like it to remember what volume I was at previously and that I had the Closed Captioning on.

Click on Guide and on the top left is a place to enter a channel number.

My red line and controls disappears after a few seconds

Entering a channel in that box only takes you to that channel in the guide, you then need to click it, then click watch. what happened to entering a channel then hitting enter. It was so simple !
My red line does not go away when watching LIVE TV:(
