DISH to Become National Facilities-based Wireless Carrier

I would have to agree with Claude . Dish is spending billions on the scraps. Plus they spent billions on existing spectrum and how many billions to build there on network. It sounds like they wanted so bad to prove that they were a cell service that the final outcome doesn’t matter. Sprint was number 4 and was barely making it. I think they should have stuck to there original plan of 5g . T mobile is laughing all the way to the bank .

Wow, talk about being off the beam. T-Mobile is crying in their soup because they lost a large chunk of income and not because they wanted to but because the DOJ forced them into it. Why do you think they fought so hard to get the merger approved without divesting any assests? If Charlie hadn't stepped in to bail them out that merger was not going to be approved. They needed DOJ approval, Charlie knew it, and Charlie played hardball. As is his wont, Charlie fleeced em. Methinks Charlie is the one laughing.

The big thing is Charlie has as much spectrum as all the other guys, and when he launches his network it will be all 5G, while all the other companies will only have small 5G networks as their networks still have to support their legacy networks and clients such as 3G, 4G, and LTE as well as 5g. Out of the box it will be America's Largest 5G Network.
Thats a very major difference.

IF he launches his network.

I do agree, 5G Is the only way to go

Legally required, if final approval goes thru.

I'll add a biggy.. the FCC wants them to succeed.

You said it! My wife thinks I should be able to read her mind and not bother her with impertinent questions.
The me too movement has made men second class citizens, Before long men will be afraid to even ask a women out for fear of being accused of harassment. Then it will up to women to ask men out.

My wife treats me out to dinner every so often. Usually she is just buying me gifts like my new watch. Granted I pay ALL the bills and expenses, her only real expense is half the groceries monthly.. it’s a great partnership. I couldn’t ask for anyone better for me.

Err, um, ahhhh- My son, may he Rest In Peace, was always approached by females. He didn’t call THEM. THEY called him. He saw it as normal and thought it odd it was the other way around for his parents.

I think the article itself has a fatal flaw when they keeping mentioning the 70% coverage number without including the words "at least". Dish could just manage to hit the 70% number the DOJ wants, or they could significantly exceed it at 90+%. Perhaps some combination of a build out plus roaming agreements as the other carriers have done for years. Only time will tell...

Yeah, I assume Dish would use roaming agreements to fill in the rest. Although, I hope they wouldn't introduce to term "Roaming Agreement Dispute" into the common lexicon as a result. ;)

I think it's going to be interesting to see how the transition from MVNO to facilities based is handled on the subscribers end. I'm sure Dish will try to make it as seamless as possible, but I'm also sure there will be some bumps along the way...

While reading the article I'm thinking, did Craig Moffett write this? About halfway down we see the main source is....Craig Moffett. Look up "The Peter Principal" in the dictionary and you see a picture of....Craig Moffett.

Now I still can't see why if Sprint, who has decades of cellular behind it, couldn't cut it as the "fourth" network, why a new entry would. Though the FCC keeps saying it wants four strong networks, this doesn't seem the way to do it. I think they really want something else and thinks Charlie can deliver it.

As for the 30% underserved, one (or all) of the Space based initiatives will cover the whole planet, much less the US rural areas. Space....a true Over The Top.

Totally agree about Craig Moffett. He derided cord-cutting as a fad 10 years ago. The reason I see Dish having a shot at success is if they really can build it as a 100% modern, software-defined, network and avoid all the legacy which holds back the existing providers, which definitely includes Sprint. It is a race against time in my view. Can they build enough capacity fast enough to matter in the market?

I think we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that Dish's long term goal in the 5G market is IOT more than personal voice or data service. This deal just gives them a strong leg up in getting there.
My thought too. That's why I think the FCC is giving a wink and a nod about a "fourth big player" as a way to get Charlie the assets to keep the "use or lose" requirements at bay while building the IOT stuff.

The "4th" player will beam down from space.

The issue with True 5G is the sheer number of transmitters required to make the service work properly.

I just don’t see Dish making the investment.

As far as 70% I need my phone to work 100% is the time, not 70%

I don’t know if I could trust dish given their history is disputes to rely on roaming agreements with other providers to fill in the gaps.

I’m happy with Verizon right now. I never looked that high at Boost, especially now that it may be Dish in sheep’s clothing.

No carrier offers 100% coverage. No one... I have service from both AT&T and Verizon that improves my coverage, but it's still not complete. Even service from all four carriers would not be 100%.

And don't forget that phone service is not Dish's primary goal, IOT is...
