This started right after the U540 update:
  • The screen goes black or freezes. The only way to get out of it is to change the channel. And there is no way to go back to what you missed. When you change back and try to scan back or use the "Restart" options, it's as if it's your first or initial visit. During the black or frozen screen, all the OSDs work and come up or go away when the appropriate buttons are pressed. So the STB doesn't lock up. But the actions that they evoke just take you through their proper course or back to the black or frozen screen. And if you close out and go to the program in the "Recordings" and try to play it again, the screen goes black, all the appropriate OSD's pop up and the Progress Bar goes sliding across the area and there is no stopping or pausing it and no way to view the program. While you can rotate through all the OSDs and press buttons, no matter what, above is the only behavior you'll get.
  • And or When a program has frozen, and can be caused by being paused (for too long) and frozen or the screen goes black for no reason while watching, if you stop the program, go and find it in Recordings and try to restart it, the screen goes black, the OSDs pop up on the screen and the progress bar goes shooting across the space and it does this every time you try. And you can not get back to the place where it happened to continue on. Switching to another program then back helps, but the problem program has to start over and you have to scan forward to that spot. The only way I have found helps is to do a reboot.
  • Then there is also when you right off the top the selected program, the screen goes black, the OSDs pop up and the progress bar goes sliding to the end in seconds. There is no way to access this program. Now Pull-thePlug Power Cycle helps most of the time and the situation stays away for a while.
  • When it first started and I had not figured it out yet, I had thought that the programs that I tried that wouldn't play were corrupt and would not play at all. And this all started with U540. So since these days after a day or so you can usually find the program elsewhere easily and in far better quality. It is teaching me how to get programming if I ever look to cut the cord.
It just froze again, I pulled the plug and am watching through the channels Internet Widget off my AppleTV 4K.

Mine does this everyday + the guide is messed up.

This is definitely not a normal occurrence that you should be having with your Hopper. It sounds like it could either be a signal issue to the Hopper or a hard drive error. We would want to check into this to verify what is the cause so we can get a resolution in for you. To access that information, please reach out to our Chat teams by clicking this link: Request Rejected. We have agents ready to assist. -Jasmine D.

Had another incident a while ago and this time when I rebooted the H3 is took a good 15-20 minutes to come back up. There was a pop up that I have never seen before, I think it was #1599 (?), about doing a system check that might take some time. Once back up, the recording worked fine. I'm trying to pin down what is going on when this happens. But the way it just pops up and all I try to work through it without rebooting, I forget what I have done. But today was the first time of the "System Check" and nothing came back to me unless a report was sent to the "Mothership"? Could this be an "Internet Interaction" via my network related issue? I have seen over the years that certain Devices that when connected to the Internet the better the connection and operation of that connection, the better the Device operates. Even though the use of the Internet or Network is not directly involved at the moment. Although there is the MoCA connection between my two H3's . . .

I'm going to contact the Chat Team, but I hate chatting, it's so disjointed and sometimes it's impossible to accurately convey a though. But I will try and post back . . .

Just tried a Chat and when I clicked on the link above, all I got was a blank page. What now?

Is this the pop up you got?

I have started saving pics of the popups in case needed.

I have thousands of pictures to illustrate issues that I have had and when I set them to dish (new logo), they ignored them and would ask me describe something that I provided in the pictures. I should go through and archive the H2 and earlier pics. There's a couple gigs.

I get this message every night at the 3 AM auto reboot

"YOU GET AN AUTO REBOOT AT 3AM "EVERY NIGHT"!!!"

I get mine whenever the H3 wants to reboot. AND it's always when someone wants to watch TV. Never when it's sleeping. Although they're set for 6am, it can be at 4:36pm, 12:22am, 8:13am, 1:56pm . . . . And I also get them during recordings and PTAT. 50% of the time we get the window that let's you stop it. The other 50% the screen just goes black. That's on both my H3's.

We don't get the 1599's during the reboots. Plus this 1599 was up for about 20 minutes. We usually just get a Black Screen for while then the Hopper 3 Reboot screen, Black, Rinse, Repeat, two to three times, then whatever channel was last on . . .

Always note, that you can manage your Daily Update in the Power Settings of the Hopper! You can visit here: How to Set Display Preferences on a Hopper | MyDISH | DISH Customer Support and select the "Power Settings" option for step by step instructions. Hope this helps! -Kevin J.

Thanks for the info, but I know that there is a place to "manage" the "Daily Update" and the pop up window. That's where I set it for 6am. What I was saying is "IT DOESN'T WORK!" . . . for me. As I said from above . . . I get mine whenever the H3 wants to reboot. AND it's always when someone wants to watch TV. Never when it's sleeping. I have brought this up before in other conversations. I've talked to Tech Support about it and they were not too concerned. It's a thing that's been happening for a long time . . .

Yes. Well to be fair it's not exactly at 3 AM...it usually occurs around 3:35 AM. I'm usually drifting off to sleep about that time and the sound of the hard drive shutting down and starting up is unmistakable.

I noticed that most of mine are between 0:35 and 0:55 after the hour. But it has done it on the other side of the clock too . . .

The "Beast" shows another curious side. The other day I put the H3's on their own VLAN which meant that the network feed was reversed. It was fed from the second STB which is about a foot from the Router. Off the top every thing was perfect for the boxes and my network. It really cleaned things up.

A couple of days later I checked the status of how things were running and found that the original source STB was connected to the WiFi network which is really strange. That H3 has never been connected to the WiFi and it was fully functional on a new WiFi network with a new SSID and password and that doesn't have WPS.

I wiped both boxes of any Internet/network setup. And did the setup again, but backwards. Now it's back to working great again. But the strange thing was how did it get on the WiFi network by itself?
