The bill will go up...no matter what happens...if not programming then equipment fees
I think it'll be equipment fees, then programming.
Hmm... the cost of adding Google Assistant must have been really expensive then. I cannot think of any other improvements lately that would justify higher equipment fees.
You do realize that you're attempting to respond to Juan with logic? :coco:)
dare2be agreed with Juan, though.
did I? :)

you might want to re-read.
And now Juan agrees with dare2be. So now, I think we all agree with each other that there will be a new Google Assistant fee. :biggrin

Probably a fee to have it disabled
Nah, you can do that now, by using the voice command "stop information sharing" or by going to Menu > Settings > Remote Control > Customizations
and setting Voice Button to Text Search. I was thinking that the fee would be for simply having the capability, whether you actually use it or not. Just like every DVR has a fee, whether you actually record anything or not.

This is what's really stupid, for any provider in a region without a RSN due to a dispute, they should be able to watch it on Center Ice.
I would agree with that, if Center Ice were being given out as a free replacement during the dispute. Otherwise, it gives pay-TV providers too much of an incentive to drop in-market RSN's, so they can charge sports fans (who will pay no matter what) more money for the (intended-to-be) out-of-market sports package, to replace programming that used to be included in the basic package.

Sinclair CEO warns dish to make a deal

Here we go - just waiting now Charlie's Q3 earnings call comment that it's likely we won't come to an agreement with Sinclair in 1....2.....3

Does anybody know when the rest of the Sinclair local channels come up for re-negotiation with Dish? Something certainly would have to give at that point.

Directv has now made deals with Sinclair (including the regional fox networks) and Altitude, I'm curious to know how those deals got done. Guessing Directv held to the current model spreading over all customers with a negotiated price.

That's a good article to read. The title reminds me of what the "BORG" would say instead of being assimulated.

Based on activity involving the Sinclair locals in the uplink reports last year (which I detailed in an earlier post) and assuming a three-year deal at that point, I would assume sometime in 2021 at the earliest.

It looks like there will not be any change in the Fox Sports Nets' status on Dish until at least January, according to the dishpromise.com page. The update for Fox Sports Net is dated 1/4. So, I am guessing that the negotiators went home for the holidays. (I realize that the 1/4 is likely a typo, since the other dispute updates are dated 11/4, but it is still funny to imagine that Dish is being honest, and accidentally let this date get leaked.)

According to the dishpromise update about Altitude from 11/4, "Altitude has continued to block its customers from their channel across all three major paid TV providers." If Directv now has Altitude back, I wonder which other providers Dish is including in that statement.

With no end to the blackout in sight I cancelled Dish after 17 years and switched to Hulu+Live TV. Dish offered me $40 per month off for a year but I passed. Dish would have still cost more than Hulu and no RSN.

Did Sinclair just admit that they will use the sports channels to unfairly negotiate locals? Pretty sure there is a law from the FCC on negotiating in good faith when public airwaves are involved. That’s a good way to get in hot water.

It's a moot point when it comes to Dish, if the existing contract for the Sinclair locals lasts as long as I think it does. As long as there are currently no active negotiations going on for the locals, Sinclair can say whatever they want, without violating any good faith negotiation requirements.
