multiple hr54

I assume you mean dvr storage. An HR24 would be your best bet.

Let say that multiple hr54 are active on account will sw-16 allow multiple receivers
Select few have more than one on an account.

You can have multiple recvrs, no problem, just not more than 1 Genie.
You can do the Genie and HR24's all day long.

Note, make that a Genie HR44/54, not the HS 17 Server.

If you have a DSWM 30, I believe you can run 6. 3 on each side of the switch.

Only with a regular legacy LNB, with a reverse band legacy LNB you could only have 2 on each side since they will grab 7 tuners each.

And you'd need to use BSFs to isolate their clients from each other, otherwise there will be problems.

OK Directv,
If we can put our collective heads together and figure out how to do it .... why can't you let us have more than 1 on an account ?

Obviously it is a business decision, they may think it isn't worth the effort to support that given that they still have HR24s and H25s for people who can't get by with one Genie+clients.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Directv starts running out of HR2x and H2x hardware. They aren't manufacturing them anymore (if you want a laugh, check out Solid Signal's price for an H25 - apparently they are in very short supply and that's why they are charging so much...same thing they did right before AM21s became unavailable except on eBay) Most of them are deemed "non recoverable" and they don't ask for them back, meaning those receivers are getting recycled instead of refurbished, so it is only a matter of time before they run out. They may be holding some in reserve for MPEG2 SD upgrades.

Regardless of the exact timing, at some point they will stop making HR2x/H2x available at all - and if there was ever a time for them to relax the one Genie thing that would be it. If they don't do it then, they never will and Directv will cease to be a viable option for people who have a lot of TVs. I don't know what they'll do for commercial customers when H25s run out, unless the COM3000 is going to be their only option. That may work for large installs, but it isn't feasible for i.e. a small bar with 4 TVs, or the waiting room at a muffler shop. Maybe the plan is to sell those small commercial accounts AT&T TV, who knows.

If they do begin supporting multiple Genies, I'm willing to bet it will be with HS17 (or future versions of it) and not the HR44/HR54. The Genie 2 changed the way that clients associate with it that would avoid the problems that the older Genies have where they can "fight" over clients. I wouldn't be surprised if they also require such installs be kept connected to the internet, so they can be sure all the Genie 2s are at the same location.

Back in the good old days I had three Genies on my account (for early release testing). It was a H44/DVR, HR44 and HR54. Two of them were connected to a SWiM16, the other to a SWiM8. The two on the SWiM16 could see the one on the SWiM8 via my ethernet network so all Genie's and could see each other for WHDVR purposes and any mini clients could access all recordings.

I've never seen anything that says why DIRECTV won't support multiple Genie's but my guess has always been accounting issues specifically preventing having more mini clients being used then what you're being billed for. The original Genie's don't validate the mini clients MAC address/RID like the HS17 does so you could be billed for only one mini client but in my case actually have three being used, one each paired to each Genie.

If they don’t want to allow multiple Genies and they’re not making new H’s and HR’s you would think they would come out with a new Genie that supports more than 7 tuners, or turn on the other 9 in the HS17.

I know, I know, its all about the reverse band.

Well what percentage of customers really care about having more than 7 tuners? Probably only a few percent, so if they're willing to sacrifice them they don't need to do anything.

I'm sure very few. Don't forget we here are enthusiasts. The average customer probably doesn't even know how many tuners the HR54 has.

Not very many. I sell this stuff every day, and unless we push the DVR to the customers very few customers if any ask for it.

If it’s someone from this board, the penetration rate is near 100%

If they don’t get a DVR, it’s likely a 211 with external drive

I have had multiple showroom HR54’s on the same network without an issue.

The main issue I have seen is when trying to network 8 DVR’s for example they sometimes don’t see all the other DVR’s

I think if you hard wired all the receivers and kept them all on a separate VLAN or router then I don’t think there would be any issues.
