I recently upgraded to a Hopper 3 in my family room and the latest Joey in my bedroom.

I also have an Amazon Fire cube attached to the TV in the family room and another to the TV and the bedroom.

The Fire TV remote is easily programmable via Alexa to turn on the TV and put it on the correct input (HDMI 3) for the Fire TV cube.

However when I turn off the Fire TV using the Alexa voice commands, the TV stays on HDMI 3.

Alexa says she does not know how to switch TV inputs back to HDMI 1, which is where the Dish receiver is connected.

When I use my dish remote to turn on the satellite and the TV, the latter stays on HDMI 3.

The Dish receiver is on HDMI 1 on both TVs.

Since the Dish powers-that be have inactivated the "input" button that was so useful on the older remotes, how can I program the current Dish remote to change the input on my TV back to HDMI 1?
When I press the input button in TV mode on either remote, I get an onscreen message saying this feature is not active.

Otherwise I have to use the respective TV remotes when I want to move back to HDMI 1 which seems cludgy and cumbersome.

Thanks for any assistance!

Caroline

ps the Dish online documentation for the new voice remotes is AWFUL and misleading, as you all probably know.

Cannot imagine why this has not been corrected...

Hey, Caroline. We definitely understand how frustrating this type of situation can be and we would be more than happy to take a look and see what we can do for you. Some TVs don't have a input menu that this function on, such as a Roku TV where all the inputs are found on the home screen.

However, if there is an input list, we would be more than happy to try and reprogram the remotes back to your TVs. On the 40.0 remote, we will need to press the menu button once, then go to settings, then go to remote control, then go down to TV under devices, then TV Pairing Wizard, then the brand of the TV then Next, then keep going through the codes until the TV changes the volume or mutes the TV and then hit finished.

On the 54.0 remote, we're going to follow the exact same step, except we're going to hit the house button twice, then go to remote control then follow the same steps as above. Please feel free to reach back out to us if this did not resolve this and we would be more than happy to continue assisting you.

Try telling the Fire Cube to Switch to Satellite before you tell it to Turn Off the TV. There is also a setting on the Fire TV Cube to change to the TV HMDI input when turning on. Make sure you have all the inputs properly setup on the Fire TV Cube, you may need to go back and resetup your equipment to make sure everyting is setup properly.

The only problem I have is that the Fire TV Cube will not turn on the Hopper 3 when I tell it to turn on the TV.

The HDMI-CEC settings that turn on other components when you turn on a source are mostly more trouble than they are worth. I turn them off on everything. I have a programmable harmony remote that works great in the living room with the Hopper and all the other equipment.

The HDMI-CEC settings on my 2 Sony TV’s work very well with my Hopper3, Apple TV, Ultra Roku, Chromecast, Amazon Fire Stick, and PS3. The only one that does not work is my Dell computer but that is because my Dell computer does not recognize CEC.

I have everything routed through different inputs on my Pioneer receiver, everything is a different brand, Panasonic plasma tv, Oppo blu-ray player, Hopper, Sony PS4, Denon CD/DVD player. All the different brands don't always nicely together using HDMI-CEC so I just don't use them.

I dont think you can depend on that HDMI-CEC option. All it did for me was act as a channel recall button. I still have Hooper 2's. Both the 40 and 54 remote.Think I like the older 40 better. Maybe my 54 remote is defective; I dont know. Maybe the 50 would have been a better choice. Paid for the 54's so I am not going to spend any more money on taking a chance with a different remote. If Dish wants to replace it for no cost I will try it. But that is probably not the case. I understand..I think they have been very good to me for 20 years.

Just to see if it would work, I was attempting to do this same thing with my bedroom TV/wireless Joey combo following the instructions given by Dish. I have the remote (54.0) programmed for the TV, it will power the TV on, and I have the remote programmed to control the volume on the LG soundbar. When I hit the input button on the side of the remote, it simply says something like "This feature is unavailable". I have a Roku 3 on HDMI 3, and a Blu-ray player on HDMI 2, and the Wireless Joey on HDMI 1, the 54.0 remote WILL NOT change inputs on the TV that it is programmed to operate.

You have to hit the TV button on the side of the remote before you try to change inputs on the TV. Otherwise you’re trying to change and put on the TV while you’re in control of the satellite

Ok, good to know, will give that a shot. Didn't think about that, figured it would only be able to change the input on the TV so I didn't think I had to hit the TV button first, nothing else has inputs to change.

What hipkat says. I have 4 things going through my av receiver. I hit AUX then hit input and i can then cycle thru all my inputs on the av receiver. Should work the same for your tv.
Don't feel bad it took me a few days to figure it out with this new remote.

OP here
I spent time on private messaging with a Dish tech via the myDish support forum (very tedious way to communicate !).
As stated in the OP I have a H3 and a Joey 3 and 2 remotes for each (54 and 40).
I was able to get one of the 40 remotes to switch HDMI input on the TV connected to the J3 but none of the other 3 remotes could do that.
The Dish tech finally messaged the s/he would forward my problems to the Dish engineering department.
Meanwhile Amazon, via one phone call, helped me enable the Fire Cube remotes to switch the HDMI from HDMI 1 to HDMI 3 and back using voice commands!
Maybe Dish should hire some of the Amazon engineers away from BezosWorld to properly empower the Dish remotes...
Thanks for all input.

Totally disagree. That may have been true many years ago, but they work flawlessly in all of my setups now with several different components. If you haven't tried in awhile it might be worth your while to try again.

You have to hit the TV button on the side of the remote before you try to change inputs on the TV.
I discovered that on the 54 remote the hard way. Very counterintuitive; it should be controlled the same way as the volume control is, namely in sat mode.

Are there any auxiliary devices that have multiple HDMI inputs? If there are, how would the sat function know which device yu intended to change? When I press a button on my Firestick remote, my TV switches to that input. Pressing the SAT button on my 40.0 remote switches it to the H2.

I have no idea but I expect the volume controls to control the TV's volume, and not some other device's.
