$99.00 to sign up for Comcast. Will it really be $120 after a year?

Xfinity Xtra 140 Channels 1 Year Term 49.99
DVR 15
HD Fee 10
Locals 15
Sports Fee 9

= 99.00 a month

After 1 year, the 140 Channels goes from 49.99 to 70 for a total of 120.00 a month.

Is there any way to get this bill lower? Can I own my own DVR?
After a year, if I call, what is the likelihood they would let me keep the 49.99 base price -or.at.least- not let it climb to 70. Perhaps give it to me for 60 or something.

Thanks.

Yeah, DVR is a service fee, it isn't going to change even if you owned the equipment.
The fee I would contest the hardest would be the HD fee. Who still charges that?

It's too bad the locals aren't optional. I'm glad mine are.

The only way to own a DVR is to buy a TiVo and pay the service charge to them or buy a lifetime subscription. Plus the cost of the cable card rental fee. Not sure what Comcast charges for cable cards, but Charter only charges $2 or $3 a month, so I would assume it's about the same.

Keep in mind that the prices Comcast quotes often don't include taxes (state and local) and/or "regulatory fees" (franchise fees, cable access fees, etc.).

Any TiVo DVR option is a huge up-front expense. The TiVo Edge with lifetime subscription lists for $949.98. Mini VOX satellite boxes list for $179.99 each and include lifetime service.

TiVo doesn't afford you the same experience or all the same programming delivery options that X1 users get (this has both pluses and minuses). As an example, I don't think you can get free Peacock Premium (more content but not ad-free) on a TiVo (though that may change in July).

I don't know if Comcast offers lifetime pricing but that's what I have with Optimum/Altice. For $10 more than the promo price I have lifetime pricing. We'll see how long it lasts though. The fine print says they can end the promo or raise the prices at any time lol.
