Comcast had crews running new lines down the street on their infrastructure. Could they be rolling out fiber to compete?

About time if true.

Charter is another that has waited too long.

I get constant calls to return to them ( I switched to fiber), but always at the same speed ( gigabit down, slow up speed) and a price which is more than what I am currently paying.

I'd wonder what they would price their fiber at if they were ever to offer it. Frontier and GoNetSpeed are undercutting them.

They could just be adding more nodes. You can get a lot of data over coax, if you keep the runs short and the number of amplifiers to a minimum.

They ran fiber in my neighborhood a good 3 years ago. Frontier just ran fiber last year.

Our daughter and her husband live in a very rural area of a neighboring county. There was no cable TV or high-speed internet available in their area. Neither Spectrum nor AT&T had service in their area. Several months ago Spectrum ran fiber down the entire length of the road they live on. My daughter said she thinks everyone who lives in the neighborhood signed up. She didn't say how much it costs but everyone is happy it's now available because they no longer have to rely on the unreliable cell service or Hughesnet (if you want to call that high speed).

Isn't it just easier to build out the fiber. Copper is slowing dying off.

When we were in CA we had a 10gig fiber connection and it was 49.99 a month!!! Why would i pay charter wich was double or more for poor service . we had multiple options for internets

I got Spectrum Fiber a couple of years ago in my very rural neck of the NC woods thanks to the RDOF and it's been quite reliable considering it's aerial. I did keep Starlink though on the $5 per month Standby plan.

we have AT&T fiber 5gig we have been happy with it. we have starlink to but that's just for travels. waiting for amazons internet but by the time that launches i'll be dead :biggrin

There's a rural WV subdivision I regularly drive past. After several years of lackluster progress, they are now running those orange pipes like Bats Out Of Hell!

WHY? StarLink is expanding in that area. Some plans are only about $50. I can't see NOT going with StarLink, given the choice.

We have fiber plans here starting at $45/mo.

I pay $35/month for fiber service from AT&T. I will always choose fiber if it is available for the latency advantage, even if it costs a bit more than 5G or Satellite.

Orange Pipes ???

Orange = communications. These runs have fiber and some areas coax. NOT RG-6! ;)

BTW, I think I pay about $100 for FiOS Internet. I think I'll keep StarLink at the RV and FiOS at home.

I wondered if that might have been what you were talking about, but at that point I don't recall Buried or underground being use in the description.

It could also be different if it's going thru Manholes as well....

If it's buried in the Ground, it's usually Orange .... Communications .

It should be RED for Power ...

Really as long as its a color .... basically it's for crane operators to see when they are digging a hole.

They did everything underground in conduit here (orange plastic).

I've never heard of people bitching about their fiber- not on cost, performance, service, reliability, speed, latency...
