The YouTube TV Thread

I'll spend a few hours looking at other services and considering other options, but likely stay with YouTube TV. Whatever anyone says, $65 is still MUCH cheaper than cable or satellite (outside of a bare bones package, one non-DVR receiver, and/or a 12-mo. promo price with contract).

But now that Fubo has finally added ESPN and ABC networks, that's now a viable option pending what price increase that entails.

Ultimately it might come down to whether there's even anything to watch in the fall. With sports still iffy and most prime time shows not being able to film yet, the offerings will be slim. I can see myself pausing live TV service until things get back to normal.

Thanks. According to some Reddit users, that limitation is no longer a thing, but it would be nice to have confirmation.

Aside from no AMC channels on Hulu, this kind of weird limitation after paying an extra fee for enhanced DVR features has been a bit of a dealbreaker for me.

I look at it as a total cost thing. Prior to July 30, YTTV was cheaper in total to get our minimum required channels and be able to FF commercials. I find myself wondering how long it has been since Hulu raised their prices. I'd hate to switch and then immediately want to switch back.

I do too. Was with YTTV for awhile and changed to ATT TV Entertainment package a couple months ago. No RSNs, but that’s not a negative for me. Figured on paying the ETF at the end of the 1st year and switching back to YTTV. Assuming no further price increases by others, that idea is no longer on the table.

I could still cancel and go with Sling with some add-ons @$50/month, up the Hulu sub to no ads for most broadcast shows, keep CBS:All Access and get all I would want.

But what I’ll probably do is call ATT to try to dicker a discount of some sort.

Wow! Hard to justify that type of increase in a year with essentially no live sports. I think Youtube TV and HULU need to look at offering an additional bundle of channels without the expensive sports channels. Philo is pretty good, but it also lacks news channels and local networks. Give people more options.

I am considering trying out Sling's antenna installation service. A neighbor used them and said it has been working fine, even after the repack. At $150, it is hard to beat the cost, especially when the price difference between Sling and YTTV is about to go to $35. I still have my Recast DVR, so, in theory, it should work, if I can actually get the signal.

That’s not the link for ATT TV Now. Atttvnow.com is the correct one. I wonder what whiz kid owns the attnow.com address?

Yeah, I fat-fingered the address when deciding to check it out. It is so easy to hide who owns a domain these days.

When does the ABC and ESPN networks going to be added? I just went on their website and they are not there.

The Viacom channels are now live. Yay. But YouTube TV just announced a price increase to $64.99, effective immediately for new subs, and July 30 for current subs. Boo!

They told me 8/25/2020 for it to go up.

The price increase is effective July 30th. That means whenever your next renewal date after the 30th will receive the increase. My renewal date is the 24th. That means on 8/24 my monthly bill will be 64.99 versus the 7/24 bill of 49.99.

When comparing pricings , remember Youtube has UN LIMITED DVR Storage and they keep it for 9 Months, some of the others charge extra for that or only give you a enough to store a couple of series or movies.
After in the DVR and price is still just OK, but better than some others.

It should be noted that ATT TV effectively just raised their prices for new subscribers in the last few days. And other providers are also making channel additions that probably will up their costs also.

In the end I think the difference in advertised cost of the different services will end up being just as they were before YTTV raised theirs. Call it the new normal.

According to their FAQ, this summer. Yeah, I know that doesn't help. When will Disney/ESPN channels be added to fuboTV?

Guesses as to the cost of Fubo TV's base package after the Disney nets (including ESPN, local ABC, FX, etc.) are added soon? My guess is that it jumps from the current $55 to $70. I don't see how the carriage costs of all those additional channels don't total at least $15/mo, especially for an operator like Fubo with so few subscribers. Heck, maybe the price will jump to $75 but they'll include the expanded cloud DVR.

$70-75 sounds like a lot, but for families that include big sports fans (which seems to be the demo Fubo targets) who value live sports in 4K HDR, it may be a better option than what they could get from their broadband operator for about the same money.

The house I just bought is in a Charter area, I will check out their TV Choice package which is $24.99, which I believe you get your locals and pick 10 channels, to be honest, I think I will have trouble getting to 10, none of which is any of the Viacom channels.

FUBO only has a 30 hour DVR. That's a deal killer for us. I'm not sure I need the unlimited DVR, but one reason we really liked Dish over Directv was 16 tuners vs. 4. Most of the time 4 is fine, but it was common we'd have more than 4 things that we needed to record at the same time. And 30 hours? um - no way.
