MLB 2020 Baseball season

Free Agency I would guess.
He's gonna have a rude awakening when he realizes how good a team he WAS on, vs who he signed with.
They are slightly better than the Tigers.

Porcello had such an up and down five seasons with the Red Sox. The even years he was outstanding, the odd years not so much. In 2016 he went 22-4 on his way to the Cy Young, and in 2018 he went 17-7 and was a huge part of a World Series championship. He also pitched one of the most dominant games I’ve ever seen by a Red Sox pitcher in August 2018 against the Yankees at Fenway. I’ve seen Pedro Martinez, Roger Clemens, Bruce Hurst, Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Chris Sale, Luis Tiant, Dennis Eckersley, etc., etc. all pitch great games, but that game pitched by Porcello took a backseat to nobody. He also generally pitched very well versus the Yankees. Unfortunately 2015, 2017 and 2019 happened also, but all things considered the Red Sox got a lot of good things out of Rick Porcello.

Canada will not allow the Toronto Blue Jays to play their home games at home. With the uptick of COVID-19 cases in much of the US, I can’t say I blame the Canadian government for taking this stance. The NHL season will resume in Toronto and Edmonton, but those two sites are bubble venues and teams are required to self quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. Obviously it would be logistically impossible to do the same thing in baseball with teams coming in and out of Toronto. It’s being reported the Blue Jays will play their “home” games in either Buffalo, or their Spring Training facility in Dunedin,FL.....sans spectators obviously.

I watched the Yankees-Mets game last night. They had cardboard cutouts for people and they were broadcasting the sounds of people in the stands. Very interesting.

I watched the Mets version of the game on SNY via MLB.TV. Late in the game the announcers spent a lot of time discussing the idiocy of Manfred's "three batter relief pitcher rule". Yep. Totally not what baseball is supposed to be.

At least it is refreshing to hear announcers explain why the league is run by morons, contrast to NASCAR where the de facto in-house shills have praised every change (even those that un do a previous idiotic change they praised at the time) for two decades.

Its nessasary to put a guy on 2nd base to get games done quicker ?
How does that effect the shortened season ?
They're having issues getting enough quality arms to not opt out and actually play this year. And, they're paying attention to what's happening in the Korean league regarding player injuries most likely due to the more aggressive training schedule needed to get the season going.

Theoretically, by which I mean the spin/excuse is that, getting games over in a time slot is necessary because the complex quarantine travel plans mean that you don't want games running late into the night, especially on travel days.

Of course both this idiotic rule, and the "pitcher must face 3 batters" rule were proposed long before the panic/pandemic, to shorten games. The desire to shorten games is born of the fundamental fact that the current commissioner simply does not like baseball.
