According to ESPN:

NBC is the NHL's U.S. TV partner. Between Aug. 1 and Aug. 5, NBC Sports will present coverage of at least four games each day across NBC, NBCSN and USA Network. That includes some games that will be joined in-progress.

What if I bought NHL Center Ice or the NHL.TV streaming package?
Kaplan: From Aug. 1 through Aug. 5, 21 games will be available on NHL Center Ice or streamed on NHL.TV, though local blackouts will apply. Remember, because the qualification round is an extension of the regular season, these games will be broadcast on local regional sports networks.

The NHL says it will announce additional games after Aug. 5 "if available."
=======================
So it seems the NHL exhibition games will not be available.

I tried a test to see if I could access NHL TV but my DISH authentication failed.

I see that there's a post further down this forum saying that NBA League Pass was having the same issue. The person said that after spending time with a DISH rep, the rep found an NBA League Pass sub listed for .01 and added that to his account. And yes, I know that the various NBC stations will be carrying the games but they say some games will be joined in progress so it would be nice to have NHL.TV as a backup if DISH continues to show most Center Ice games in SD.

Same here. I was unable to authenticate using NHL.TV. Going to hop on a chat with Dish to get NHL-CI posted on my account so it does authenticate.

EDIT: I tried doing this by chat....a disaster. First the agent wanted to add MLB-Extra Innings to my package, then told me about blackout restrictions on some games and then told me about the dispute with the NFL over the NFL Network. I'm going to get on the phone and slog my way through explaining the situation to a service rep. Yikes.

These reps tend to be more knowledgeable and helpful than the reps at the standard 1-800-333-DISH number.

Just a quick update to the original post.

It appears that the exhibition games ARE available on NHL TV.

My DISH Center Ice subscription was able to authenticate today (7/29) and I did not have to call DISH support.

Go to NHL.COM and click on the NHL.TV dropdown at the top of the screen and choose the option "Center Ice Subscribers Authenticate Now".

Same here. I guess there was a lag in the authentication process. All good now!
