I have been with Dish since the late 90s. My college team is in the Big 12 and they are seen on the RSNs dish got rid of. So I reduced Dish to one receiver(H3) ( sent 3 Joeys back) to see my 3 external hard drives and switched my programming (250, Showtime, Starz, Dish Movie Pack) to the welcome pack to keep locals and Prime time anytime. I use the H3 supported Netflix and Amazon Prime with added channels Acorn and Britbox. I reduced my bill by over $120 per month. I used that money to get Directv with the HBO/Cinemax, NFL and RSNs. with a HR54, 2 wireless minis and a 4k mini.

Just wondering.. what are you getting with dish that you can’t get with Directv? why are you keeping both services? Just curious.
I have 3 EHDs (external hard drives)(3.5 TB) loaded with 20 years worth of commercial free concerts , war movies, Syfy movies that can only play on an activated Dish receiver. Dish also has Prime Time Anytime that records all network shows without having to program them in. I already have run into a tuner conflict on the HR54 trying to record 6 shows at the same time. The H3 can record 16 satellite channels and 2 OTA channels at the same time. So I got the lowest cost Welcome Package to see my EHDs and locals. Got Directv for sports.

So get a component to H.264 encoder like Hauppauge | HD PVR model 1212 HD Video Recorder and copy all your recordings to a computer.

You may want to check that out. In the Big 12, unlike all other major conferences, teams hold back one football game and a handful of non-conference basketball games (and other content involving less popular sports). Under the most recent deals, all of this content for the "little 8" (Iowa St. TCU, Texas Tech, WVU, Baylor, Oklahoma St. Kansas, and Kansas St.) are now found not on RSNs but on the ESPN+ pay internet service. The Texas content is found on Longhorn Network.

Which leaves Oklahoma. The football game in question for 2019 was South Dakota State, a I-AA team OU defeated 70-14; for 2018 the game was Army, which was a surprisingly close game with OU winning in OT; for 2017 the game was Tulane, from the lowly AAC, which OU won 56-14; 2016 was Louisiana-Monroe from the lowly Sun Belt, 59-17; 2015 was Akron from the even lower MAC, 41-3, etc.

You are talking about one blowout game versus an out-matched opponent. I'm sure there are plenty of bars, cigar lounges, restaurants, and other establishments that will have the game on, certainly if you live in or near Oklahoma.

is there anything that could record 4k hdr recordings from directv as well?

You'd need something to strip the HDCP off the HDMI connection first but there are 4K capture devices, I don't know if they support the HDR though.

UltraStudio 4K Extreme 3
Advanced 40Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 and PCI Express solution with 12G SDI, HDMI 2.0, Analog, 4:4:4, Ultra HD and 4K up to 2160p60 and hardware encoder for H.265.
$2,995
