I need to rent the 1980 release of the animated movie “The Return of the King” (not to be confused with the live action movie released in 2003). I rented the disc of the 1977 cartoon “The Hobbit” on DVD Netflix, and the animated 1978 “The Lord of the Rings” is coming up on my queue. But I want to see the conclusion. Neither my subscriptions from DVD Netflix nor 3D Blu-ray Rental offer it. Either some type of disc or streaming is okay. Can anybody tell me where to go, or at least recommend a website where I can ask this question? Thanks in advance.

Looks likes Amazon sells it on DVD for under $13. I do know that "The Return of the King" was not done by Baskhi who was behind the 1978 animated "The Lord of the Rings", so it is not a true sequel or conclusion as "The Two Towers" is totally skipped.

Thanks for trying, but I’m suspicious of that website. It looks like one of those websites that would steal your credit card info or give your computer a virus. I’m not blaming you though. If somebody here can verify that website is okay, I might give it a try.

It is a pirate site, don’t do it.
Why not the Peter Jackson’s film, that cartoon of Return of the King is just awful, the Ralph Bakshi film is ok, it just edits out too much from the first 2 books.
The extended versions of the live films is the best way to go, but even they edit/change a lot from the books.

I actually checked out a copy from the library today. Thanx for the input! As far as for "The Lord of the Rings" animated movie not actually being connected to the animated movies "The Hobbit" not "The Return of the King", I'm okay with that. Warner Bros. seems to like to connect those animated movies together, even though they are not actually connected. I just kind of want to fill in the gap as much as I can with "The Lord of the Rings" filling at least part of it. (Though I've also read that movie covers part of "The Two Towers".) And I have seen the trailer for "The Lord of the Rings" animated movie and yes it's easy to tell they are not connected. I also really LOVE the Rankin/Bass library, so that's part of why I want to see them. I really loved "The Hobbit" animated movie that I checked out from DVD Netflix a few weeks ago. As far as the movies go, I happen to have seen both the theatrical and extended versions of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy several times and have them on Blu-ray, and also have seen "The Hobbit" trilogy theatrical and extended versions several times and I own them on Blu-ray 3D and standard Blu-ray. I plan to get all of "The Lord of the Rings" theatrical and extended versions as well as "The Hobbit" theatrical and extended versions all on 4K Blu-ray sooner or later. Right now I am just wanting to watch a different take on them. Probably someday I'll get copies of those shows as well. Anyways, "The Lord of the Rings" DVD I'm getting from DVD Netflix should be delivered to my home within the next few days (I'm guessing tomorrow"), and I'll watch that one, and then I'll watch "The Return of the King" after that. I don't have to return the copy of that one for 14 days, so it's okay if I wait a few days, and I can always check it out again. And no, I don't care if they aren't really connected.

Get the extended edition of " thevtwo towers"... much better than the theater edition...its a bit longer...fill in alot of holes
I agree. It is 43 minutes longer than the theatrical version. I have the extended versions of all the LOTR movies as well as The Hobbit movies in my iTunes catalog and they are all DolbyVision and Atmos sound! I purchased the BD sets and they got upgraded.
Sorry about the late post, but I checked out the animated “The Return of the King” from the library last Sunday. My DVD Netflix rental of the animated “The Lord of the Rings” came on Monday and I watched that first, then “The Return of the King”. Both were quite good to me. I know they’re not connected to each other but I notice that WB likes to put those two plus “The Hobbit” in three disc packs. I still enjoyed watching those in that order despite one of the shows not actually connected to the others. And Rankin/Bass shows I often love. “The Lord of the Rings” animation was often very strange yet good. I will probably buy the box set of those three on DVD someday, as well as “The Lord of the Rings” on Blu-ray as well. Too bad the other two aren’t on Blu-ray though for I would get them in that standard as well.
