Thinking cutting the cord

So I’ve had my hopper unplugged for the last week and have YouTubeTV running on an AppleTV.
The more I use it the more I like it.
Live tv is great, no complaints.
Recordings are good. My only issue with recordings is that a lot of the shows that I normally record are recorded as video on demand. The only issue with this is that with VOD there are commercials that can’t be skipped.
For me that is the only downside compared to Dish.

You have to pick the DVR version, it gives you the option of either.

Well as of last night I went on DISH pause for the next 3 months and I will be using the Airtv anywhere device that has 4 ota tuners and built in hard drive. If I want I can continue to pause for another 6 months afterwards at $5.00 a month. But most likely we will cut the satellite cord by this September. Sling has been great and I have more channel choices than I thought I would have. Getting all Starz channels and Encore channels and they all look like they are in HD. Getting Retro and Indie channel too and all for $9.00.

This is the OP here.
I called today and canceled. Dish has been nothing but great for the last 25 or more years.
They really tried their best to keep me (offered some great deals) but for what use it for, YTTV is perfect and the more I use it the more I like it. And a bonus is no more hardware beside an AppleTV.
Thanks everyone for the input.

How depressing, even the satellite diehards are leaving :crying2

I do get it...there's just so many options and so much streaming content out there that satellite really is a dinosaur.
There are many of us that for various reasons, mostly related to lack of good Internet service availability, hope that "dinosaur" lasts a long while...

When you select the episode of the show you want to watch, look below it. Often you can click and it will give you the option to select the DVR version or the VOD version. Select the DVR and you can skip the adds.
In case anybody here is wondering what these instructions pertain to, they pertain to YouTubeTV running on an AppleTV.

I never even see the VOD version of a show I recorded on YTTV unless I go looking for it, but it is a common enough complaint that I wonder if there is a setting somewhere that controls the default you see.

I've thought about it many times. But I need something to watch sports, so either YouTube tv or Hulu Live. I'd probably need to bump my internet up too to handle more than 1 stream at a time. By the time I upgrade internet and pay $70/month for streaming, it'd be a wash.

Unless you have nightmare scenarios with Dish (terrible reception, faulty used equipment), you can't beat it. It is not perfect. Few annoying issues here and there.
Before cancelling it, try few streamers free and decide. You can also downsize the dish package. Who needs over 250 channels?
It's not that I want 250 channels. I only watch about 20-25 of them on any kind of a regular basis. The problem is the way the packages are set up. There are 2-3 channels I like that are only in the Top 250 package.

Go through Chat first to try and quickly ascertain your available discount options. Of the benefits cost wise for Dish, I have found the discounts on premiums (the one's left) are a decent carrot.
Tried that a couple of weeks ago. The chat rep was completely useless. Couldn't offer me any kind of discounts despite being a 20+ year customer. The only option he could offer was to drop to a lower package.

That’s been my experience in past years depending on who I talked to. That’s why the last few times I used the DIRT team. This time when I went to cancel they realized I was serious and were offering me really great deals to try to get me to stay but in the end I feel streaming is more inline with what I want.
