I own both these units and they need new hard drives. Can I use any 2TB drives? I was thinking about WD Purple drives. Someone mentioned that the HR24 drive needs to be 2.5” but I'm not sure. I was also thinking about going external but I think the eSATA docking stations are hard to find now. Does anyone know for sure? DirecTV wants to swap me out with a new whole-home system which I'm not interested in.

I'm not sure which hard drives are compatible, but quite frankly you would be better off going to an HR54 and a client. Getting a C61k client would get you 4k if that's of interest to you.

I already have an HR44 along with another working HR22 & H24 but I’d definitely like to add another genie to my account if possible

Those 2TB drives will work fine --The HR2X have a 2TB max --I use one these -with a 1TB SSD on one of my HR22's : Amazon product ASIN B07WC1QQVCView: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WC1QQVC/?coliid=I2KYEYRVJSIEQD&colid=26P27LLO1B2MA&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

It's been working fine since 2019

Thanks I’ll check it out, I have a 3TB Western Digital I’d like to put into my HR44 internally so I might look at that as well

I swapped out the HDD in the HR24 and it couldn’t have been easier, the hardest part was getting the cover off without breaking the clips but beyond that it was very easy. I put in a 2TB Seagate Barracuda($63) and it fired right up and back to life. Now to try the 3TB in my HR44(once I watch some stuff on the current drive first) and hope it’s just as easy

Depending on the sub-model/manufacturer of the HR24 some have security screws holding the hard drive in one will need bits for.
