More Painful Cancelling Dish Network than Going to a Dentist.

But it brought up a whole different issue. He owns his equipment. DISH acknowledges that he owns his equipment. Yet they are sending him a box to return his owned equipment. Why is that. As discussed, if he doesn’t send back the equipment he will be billed the full cost of said equipment. This is worth discussing. And if he thought it was worth posting, so be it. Calling him a whiner is not in the best interest of what this website is all about.
Not going to worry about it unless the boxes actually shows up at my billing address. Then there will be a lot more wasted time on phone calls.

Here's a sure-fire way to get the CSRs to let you off the phone while avoiding a long spiel from the retention department:

Tell 'em you don't need service any longer because you're headed to prison.
Better tell them for a few years or they are just going to offer putting your account on hold.

Knowing DISH after 25 years , the csr would try to sign you up for DISH Mover and have a tech show up at the prison you list as your new destination. I'm here to install a sat dish for Inmate........ ;)

Just ask if they can send a Dish Mover (installer) to cellblock 3B cell # 405 at ADX Supermax, Florence, CO.

Call Dish on the 1st to cancel and what an experience. I'm retired and live in a 5th wheel. Move every month or so, and just don't spend time watch TV enough to justify the high cost of Dish. What I figured would be a few minute phone call took over 20 minutes. Got some guy in Houston, so at least he spoke English. Told him I wanted to cancel as I didn't need it any more, and he kept insisting there was other reasons. Finally lied to him and said I used my son's Netflix so he would process the cancellation. He did try to talk me into a $42 discount per month. Also, wanted me to send back all my purchased equipment (Hopper3, Jody, and LNB). Had to give him a shipping address so he could send a box.

I've never had such hassle cancelling anything.
Oh...try canceling SiriusXM. You won't believe the crap you're made to withstand.

If your equipment was purchased, rather than leased, I'm not sure why you would send it to Dish. You own it. You could sell it, or keep it in case you want to re-establish service later.
You own it...You own it. I own mine and if I cancelled Dish I would not send it back. No company wants to lose subscribers. especially in this day when subs are dropping left and right from every service. They do the best into trying to keep you. That is the way it is. They also make it as hard as they can to try and keep you. I am sure in some cases the tactics work too.

Ahh, the advantage of having an account that I can shut down any time I want to by just not paying the next bill. And later on just pay it to restart service if I change my mind... ;)
I've tried to research how long you can leave the service off before they will cancel your account but nobody seems to know..Even asked on dish chat but they were clueless as to what I was even asking about..Since we acquired the T-mobile internet in Dec I took advantage of the philo $10 month off for a year deal and it's been working fine..Our camp in southern Ohio has a signal for 4g so I'm probably going to be done with my Sat equipment for good unless T-mobile geo locks the gateway.

I've never seen a time limit mentioned either, but I do know folks have left the service off for at least a year during COVID and had no problem restarting it. If the receivers are deactivated for more than a few weeks, it may be necessary to have Dish send them a "wake up" signal, but that just takes a few clicks in your MyDish account.

After 10+ years with dish, I canceled today as well. It was going more pleasent than expected , offered me 75 for hopper w golf channel (was paying 109) and they raised to 115 last week. I tried yttv and liked their 4k options, but at the end of our conversation, she offered to put a hold on account instead of canceling completely for 9 months, and i said sure!!

But then said there was a $5 monthly charge, and lost my stuff!

Box is coming, it is my 4th leased refurbished POS
Is there a market for the dual Ota adapters?
