MLB 2022 Season

Just a few quick thoughts :

Way early AL Rookie of the Year
Jeremy Pena Houston SS

Boston REALLY needs a CLOSER .... No, not Paplebon.
What was wrong with Barnes in the ninth, he did the job the other day ...
Another Blown Save for the Sox today.
And the Offense wins it in 10 with a Grand Slam ...

Sox have now won 5 in a row ....

Have they turned the corner ?

Jimbo, Matt Barnes is not the answer. He is broken and at minimum needs a change of scenery. Yes, he got the save yesterday, but that was fool’s gold. The Mariners hit 3 scorchers that just happened to find their way in Red Sox gloves. If they can’t acquire a closer then I think they should give Tanner Houck a shot.

Jake Diekman doesn't belong pitching in the 9th inning either ...
They need to GET one soon, IF they have any thoughts about getting back into the playoff thoughts.

I 1,000% agree. Success is not sustainable in today’s MLB if you don’t have a lockdown closer AND 8th inning guy. The Red Sox have a roster full of middle/long/mop up relievers.

Q. When the GM was in Tampa, did they use a Closer at all, or was he the guy that started the No Starter is needed fad ?

I’m pretty sure Chaim Bloom was in the Rays front office when they started the “opener” fad, but I seem to recall they also always had a decent closer in those days. That kid Colome had 35-40 saves for a few seasons.

I heard someone on the radio the other day ... may have been MLB Network, not sure, but ... they got to thinking, what about using Chris Sale as your Closer when he gets back ?

My thoughts now.
He pitches less innings that way.
He can let it fly instead of pacing yourself for the 7-8 innings he'd hopefully be pitching.

Then again, do they HAVE enough Starting pitching to Not have Sale in the rotation when he gets back ?

When he started with White Sox Sale did just that....Just remember how well that worked out with Dennis Eckersley....So not a crazy thought!

I would definitely give Sale a shot. The Sox current starting rotation of Eovaldi-Pivetta-Whitlock-Wacha-Hill have been getting the job done. They also have James Paxton hopefully coming back soon.

I'm game with that ... till a Starter starts to struggle ...
For Chris, the ninth would make him available that much sooner, seeing they are not stretching him out for 6+ innings.

I just watched Matt Barnes walk 4 men in 1/3 of an inning, and the Red Sox had a NINE RUN LEAD!! Inexcusable for a ML pitcher to do that with a 9 run lead. Bloom needs to eat his contract and DFA his a** off the roster. He’s gone from broken to useless.

Come on GM Bill ...

Quickly ...

Looks like Sale is still a ways out, but hes progressing ...

Lets hope he comes back this time and starts pitching like Verlander is currently (also out with TJ surgery, but did not come back last year)

Verlander got roughed up last night, losing 6-1. Think he gave up 5 of those runs.
Thats more runs given up than he had given up all years combined.

I wouldn't want to be his next opponent.

Last night was JV's next outing .... As expected.
He went out and pitched into the 7th without giving up a hit (2 walks and a HBP).
His offense didn't do much up till that point in the game, it was 1-0 Houston in the 7th.

This guy may be around for awhile at 39 years old and just recovered from TJ surgery ...

Keep going JV :clapping

If the season ended today, the Red Sox would qualify for the postseason. How TF did that happen??!! (The Angels losing 11 in a row would be the most obvious answer).

I don't feel that they have completely turned the corner .... yet.

They are just now at .500 ...
lets see what happens in the next 20 games or so, that should tell a lot about where they are going this year.

They will either put it together and play solid ball, or they will slide the other way .
If they slide, I can see alot of people being shipped out, now of at the end of the season.

Btw, Enjoy Bogaerts while you can, doesn't sound like hes wanting to stick around after this year.

Everything I’ve heard says Bogaerts wants to stay with the Red Sox, but has no problem leaving if the Sox don’t meet his demands.

As far as the Red Sox and their playoff chances this year, I stick to what I said before: they need to add a few arms to that bullpen for anyone to take them serious.
