DIRECTV unlikely to keep NFL Sunday Ticket

Survey out with a big sample size (2,562 fans who regularly watch the NFL) that says almost half (48 per cent) of NFL fans definitely will or are likely to subscribe to Sunday Ticket when offered by a major streaming provider.

My opinion of how many might become subscribers, once it is away from DirecTV, looks to be correct based on this survey.

Price does affect it, if $300 is correct, then it drops to 26% of NFL Fans.

But considering that the NFL has over 100 million fans in the United States, that potentially is a lot of subscribers.

The average number of American fans aged 13+ that went to or watched a game over the five years was about 127.6 million

There are approximately 184 million NFL fans today. And like any group,

According to an ESPN pool, about 160 million people are NFL fans in the USA. Moreover, a poll conducted by the Associated Press found that about 49 percent of Americans, which is nearly half of the population, are avid fans of the NFL.

Ohh..they offered a phony price point

● A base price offer of $150 – $200 could increase potential subscribers by 1.67x – 1.94x in comparison to the current $300 base price

It is in the link-

Increased accessibility via a streaming service may not be enough though, it will have to be cheaper as well – only 26 per cent of fans willing to pay up to the current $300 base price

So, if only 26% of 100 million NFL Fans ( and according to the links I have provided, they have a lot more, up to 180 million), that is 26 million willing to pay $300, which is $7.8 million per year.

Now, I do not believe it will be that high, based on the survey and other things I have read, I believe it will be closer to 10 million, if there are 160 million NFL fans, that is only, so roughly, 6% of fans, but still $3 Billion dollars, enough to make a profit.

Which I have been predicting.

One thing about ST on Amazon will be the password sharing. Even if ST was $100, people would still share passwords. I wonder if Amazon would lock ST to a number of devices per account. That certainly would make some people upset, especially those that don't pay for streaming services.

Your record for correct predictions is noted.

What is so hard to believe that if you open it up to everyone, there will be more subscribers.

The vast majority of the population do not want DirecTV and hence, NFLST is not available to them

The vast majority of the population do want and have broadband ( 85% have broadband) so NFLST is available to them.

And as I stated, 26% of NFL Fans that do want ST at $300 is, in my opinion, too high.

But 6-10% is more realistic, which is still enough to make a profit, specially with advertising.

To make a statement like that..you need to know the pricepoint and more importantly a contract needs to be signed between the NFL and streamer

I did give a price point, $300 and I doubt it will be more unless it is in the contract with Fox/CBS, but all news stories have said $300 because of Fox/CBS.

Right now, based on last year’s numbers, 2 million get it from DirecTV, that is 20% of the 10 million that subscribe to DirecTV.

Again, 26% of NFL Fans is too high, 6-10% is not.

If the ne rights holder pays double or triple what directv did..the price will increase..basic economics..but we don't know any details of any agreement yet..we know apple didn’t announce anything but other than that we know 20 million watch NFL on a regular Sunday..2 million sub to NFL sunday ticket...how many of those 2 million pay full price is not readily available but we do know the majority pay a reduced price or get it free..whoever wrote that article probably read your misinformation in this thread

What a world you must live in with all these made up facts. Price wouldn't need to increase if the number of subs increases (at least) proportionally. As has been stated before, a variety of other ways to monetize the package and partnership. Fox is selling Super Bowl ads for as much as $7m per hit. The NFL has never been more popular (despite your expectations of failure).

Far more than 20 million people watch the NFL every Sunday.

Citation needed on 'majority pay a reduced price or get it free' for existing Sunday Ticket. You've built no credibility to just create facts.

You mean everyone who took the poll read this thread? Come on now, just hysterically reaching at this point.

Directv only had around 2-2.5 million subs to Sunday ticket. That includes free/paying and commercial

The idea that ST can be profitable is so silly it is laughable. We KNOW how many people want ST. It is about 2M.

How do we know that? Because that is how many people have it. If you want it, you have it. And, even if you don’t buy into that fact, fine. It is still about 2M. How do we know that. Because that is how many people had it when there was no such thing as streaming and it was cable, DISH, or DirecTV or do without.

And, BTW, the price point is not $300. It is $300 PLUS whatever it is predicated upon first buying, which, apparently Google may be back in this, meaning it would be predicated upon YouTube TV, which is grossly inferior to almost any other linear TV provider or the no commercials version of YouTube, which is a waste of money,

The advertising is 2 minutes per hour and irrelevant.

And there is this little thing called the ratings. Look em up. Apparently the NFL has a lot of fans that don’t watch it. The top game in a regular week in mid-season draws maybe 30M.

I mean, almost every sentence has an issue here. It's been proven by participants in this thread - myself included, that not everyone who wants Sunday Ticket wants or can get DirecTV. So please, show some actual research demonstrating this fallacy you keep repeating as fact. Bruce has.

The current barrier for entry for DirecTV is thousands of dollars just for DirecTV service, hardware and fees over a 2 year period - the second year they aren't even expected to offer the package. This comes at a significant cost to DirecTV as well - very expensive customer acquisition and other costs that are not incurred by streaming providers.

Advertising opportunities are far more than 2 minutes per hour, and the value beyond just the subscription is significant to both the brand and ancillary services - even if no other services are required to subscribe.

Yeah, take a look at them ratings. You guys like to have this one both ways... you say people only watch their team, but then throw around things like 20-30m people watch the NFL weekly. Which is it?

Well, there is this little thing called the ratings. Look em up. Apparently the NFL has a lot of fans that watch every week - 100 million week 1 2021:

So how about some citations for your side, yeah?

Once again, I and many others that have posted in this thread have stated we want it and do not have DirecTV.

It would cost a average of $200 a month at least, over 24 months since I need 11 boxes, just because you claim that you only spend $65 a month does not mean everyone does
And, BTW, the price point is not $300. It is $300 PLUS
Just like DirecTV which would costs me over $4000 extra just to get NFLST from DirecTV.
whatever it is predicated upon first buying, which, apparently Google may be back in this, meaning it would be predicated upon YouTube TV, which is grossly inferior to almost any other linear TV provider or the no commercials version of YouTube, which is a waste of money,
Have you ever tried YTTV, it had a major upgrade about 3 months ago, the guide is just as good as DirecTV or Dish.

Also, do you get a 1080P Picture and Dolby Digital+ sound via DirecTV, how about unlimited DVR, 3 Streams (Boxes) , all for $65 a month.

Also has the same extra 4K sports events that everyone else has.
The advertising is 2 minutes per hour and irrelevant.
Internet has targeted advertising, which takes in a lot more money then the regular way.

Also has that Learn More Box that pops up during a commercial, click on that means even more money for YTTV for example.
And there is this little thing called the ratings. Look em up. Apparently the NFL has a lot of fans that don’t watch it. The top game in a regular week in mid-season draws maybe 30M.
Now you bring up ratings again, you have been incorrect before on that topic, like when you posted that the RSNs get incredible ratings ( and without evidence or links), yet I have posted they do not ( and I posted prove and links).

RSNs get very low ratings, like the Yankees only average 400,000 out of 20 million in the NY metro area, that is only 2% of the potential audience.

If Google gets it, will they require you to sub to YouTube TV to get NFL ST? I mean it's cheaper than DTV, but I have no intentions of leaving DTV, not for a while, if they decide to make you sub that's BS, I get you have to sub to Prime(which is like $16.19 a month for me, big deal), & Apple TV+($4.99 a month, big deal), I'm not paying for a service I don't want to use, but I guess if I want the Ticket I'm gonna have to, but if the NFL wants to get more subs they better make it so you're not required to pay for additional services, I get you needed DTV to get the ST, but I just find it to be BS if I have to sub to YTTV, as for pricing, I hope it's not above the current Max price, which is close to $400, I have it free this year, but am willing to pay the $400 for ST, and hope for payment plans like with DTV.
