Dish Anywhere & Firestick issues

We just upgraded to the Hopper Sling this week. We have 5 tv's in the house in addition to the main tv in living that the Hopper is connected to. The tv the Hopper is connected to works great. However due to the cost we opted to NOT get a Joey for each tv, instead we bought 3 Firesticks. We don't need a Firestick for all 5 tv's. We also realize that we can only watch 2 tv's at a time with the Hopper and the Firesticks. There are only 2 of us in the house so no more than 2 tv's would be running at the same time. However does this mean we cannot watch 2 Firestick tvs at the same time....another words only use one Firestick and have other tv on the Hopper itself? Asking for future reference.

Here is our issue we cannot get the Firesticks to work....you can get the guide but cannot change channels, instead it throws up an error message that we need the Hopper Sling. I have D/l the Anywhere app on the 3 Firestick tv's.

Here is our question...do we have to d/l the Dish Anywhere APP ON the Hopper Sling to pair it with our Firesticks to make it work? PLEASE help/reply ASAP, this is driving us nuts!! We are in our 60's so please reply in layman terms. LOL I am hoping this is an easy fix from some of you that know what we need to do. Thanks in advance.

You can only stream at one location at a time. You cannot stream two or three of the fire sticks using dish anywhere at the same time. Not to mention, if you’re using any apps on the hopper, that counts as a stream as does using on demand.

If one of the sales people convinced you that you could use a fire stick at each TV, they’ve been doing that a lot lately and it’s not true.

The firesticks work great and I use them daily on various days with Dish Anywhere, but as HipKat points out only 1 can be used at a time. I had heard that this was a contractual issue, but is super limiting for a situation like yours. I really wish there could be at least 2 active at a time. No clue if that is even potentially in the works at this point, but you would think it would be given the growth of something like YouTubeTV...

Thank you for your replies....after a very lengthy conversation with dish, yes they said only one stick at a time. UGH!! So back to the old way for us.

Keep in mind, if you’re going to go back to Joeys, one of your TVs can still rely on dish anywhere as long as you’re not streaming on one of your receivers

It does not take too awfully long to move a Joey to another TV, assuming you have the HDMI cables and an RF coax from the Hopper available at each location.

Yeah, although I have seen several on this forum swear by the wireless Joey which would be even faster. I've been meaning to test out a wireless dongle on my J3 but have yet to do so. I did have one of my J3's on Ethernet only. I gather this configuration (no MoCA) is not supported, but it worked quite well.

Comcast and Charter also offer unlimited streams (boxes) at no charge using a Roku(s) type unit, I believe DirecTV is offering some version of it also.

At my house, only need two, Living Room and Outdoor Theater, but I need the availability of more when I have guests like I did over the Holidays.

That box fee would peeve me off to pay for a bunch of TVs ( have 11 total) that only get use about 2 weeks of use a year.

The Stupid DVR and receiver fees are one reason dish has lost several customers..I use the RV pay as you go account and have three hopper 2's,one 222k and two 211k's on my account..Originally I used the 3 hopper 2's which gave me 3 paired dish anywhere accounts with all channels including locals and dvr access from all receivers..cost $25 month..I don't use dvr any so I went back to using 222k and one 211k cost $5 month..Now I currently have top200 package and dishanywhere can be used on unlimited firesticks for around 170 channels of live tv..Hopper receiver are not worth owning unless you dvr

Thanks again for your replies....here is what "going back to our old way" means in my previous post. Our old receiver was installed in our house in 2001 as well as the outdoor Dish antenna.....so they were quite old, but still working.

We received a new dish antenna when the tech installed the Hopper Sling. Hubby has all 5 tv's on a splitter in our basement (a 2 story farm house). In order to "change channels" in our upstairs bedroom for example, we have to put the channel we want to watch on the main floor receiver and go upstairs to bed. IF we want to change the channel you have to run back downstairs, change the channel on the receiver and back to bed. I am awake at night alot due to my disability, thus I watch tv in the bedroom alot. This running back and forth is frustrating.

We have never had a Joey.....hubby refuses to give Dish anymore money per month....they get enough the way it is. Therefore we wanted to use the Firestick to change the channels in the bedroom without running downstairs all of the time. Which we may now be able to do, if can only use one at a time.

The Hopper 3 remote is a radio frequency remote not a infrared remote so I does not have to be line of sight and can work through walls and floors.
Have you tried taking the remote to the bedroom with you to see if it will change the channel from there?

And if that works it would be advantageous to purchase a second remote, pair it with your Hopper, and keep that one upstairs. The remote is like $20 to purchase.

Is the Dish Anywhere app on the FireTV’s now working? They did a major upgrade a number of months ago which tanked the picture quality and resulted in a lot app lockups (spinners of death). I stopped using it because it was so bad. I went back in last week to see if they fixed it but it still looked bad. Can’t wait for them to fix it.

I use it every day and have seen no problems that you are speaking of. Sure sounds like a home network issue not a dish issue to me.

I use the Dish anywhere app on several TVs in 3 different houses (3 separate wifi networks) and it looks terrible since the last major update. We connect with the app on our Amazon Firesticks 4K latest model. I also have very poor picture quality and the app lockups others are experiencing. I don’t believe it is a problem with our main home receiver as it has very good internet connection and very good pictures at home with our hopper and 4K joeys. I’ve called Dish customer service but they seem to be in denial that a problem exists.
