As was mentioned before the game, there were only a few 4k cameras being used .... espn got 4k video when the Sony Cameras were not ?
Watched a knicks vs the celtics game on ESPN 2 while it was a 1080P broadcast it upconverted beautifully!!!! and not even all 4K discs are mastered in true 4K

yes i seen 4k fake 4k fake 8k and real 8k in japan. the ps 5 does 8k and it looks amazing better than any upconvert
Only for certain games and is AI-upscaling, does not do so for media.

Also, only works on certain TVs.

The PS5 Pro is designed to support 8K resolution output, but primarily for gaming via AI-upscaling (PSSR), not native 8K video playback for movies. While it can output a 60Hz 8K signal to compatible TVs, movie streaming services on the console are currently limited to 4K Ultra HD.

I just about cried after seeing parts of the super bowl on ESPN in full fledged 4K being upconverted to a fake 8K. the game would have been alot better if it was true 4K!!!

So, how was this possible?

espn must have gotten different footage or there was some kind of trickery involved. the turf looked meh on nbc but looked amazing on espn 2 🤔

8k is officially dead now. Even LG has announced no more 8k TVs will be made. The Human eye can't see a difference anyway from 4k to 8k unless you sit right up on the screen and who does that anyway?
our best buy has no 8k sets!!! crutchfield has 8 samjunks. i also belive they banned 8k sets in europe because of there power consumption also

Given that most manufacturers, essentially everyone except Samsung, have now discontinued their 8K models, it's reasonable to say that you shouldn't buy an 8K TV. Here's the reasons why we don't expect 8K TVs to become more popular anytime soon.

Nearly all modern TVs are 4K resolution: 3,840x2,160 pixels. Older and smaller TVs might be HD, aka 1,920x1,080 or less. But there are a handful of TVs you can buy right now that are 8K resolution, or 7,680x4,320. That's four times the number of pixels as Ultra HD 4K TVs. However, our picks for the best TVs don't include 8K models because they're expensive and their overall performance is worse than cheaper 4K TVs.

Should you consider an 8K TV? In a word: no. In several words: not yet -- and maybe not ever. You're better off buying a high-quality 4K TV for far less money, and it'll look better with all the content you can actually watch. And considering how difficult and expensive it is to produce native 8K content (4K is barely the norm even in 2026), 8K TVs aren't something you should view as future-proofing, either.
