EchoStar 25 @110W March 9/10 - 2026.

And, while again unlikely they'll get them anytime soon, there are those last 3 x-ponders D* is sitting on doing absolutely nothing with!
Same goes for the 11 transponders at 119. DIRECTV with the reverse band frequencies has enough bandwidth and does not need any frequencies at 110 or 119.

They just do the bare minimum to maintain the transponder licenses because DISH could really use an extra 14 Transponders at 110/119.

At the end of the day, it keeps DIRECTV at a competitive advantage over DISH.

IMHO Dish should have never given up 129 and should have used it to be the leader in 4K, and other specialty programming

It's about reducing costs.
The time is coming where everything will probably be on 110/119 since the new satellites being launched have the capability to cover all markets. There will be no east or west arc.

And then one might expect Dish and DirecTV to merge and add some but not all of the DirecTV slots to the mix.

If and/or when the EA goes away so will the vast majority of the customers we've installed because of a lack of a line of sight. 119 is only about 22 degrees elevation and a good majority of our customers are in mountainous and heavily wooded areas.

Agreed. I have zero LOS on western arc. No eastern arc = end of my time as a Dish customer.

It never made any sense to me the way they did Eastern Arc. There was certain DMAs that where on both ARCs.

I always looked at it as a self insurance policy as if they where something that happened to either eastern or western arc, they would only have half of their customers without service. Remember after the insurance claim on Echostar 4, nobody would insure any of DISH networks satellites besides providing launch insurance.

The reason some DMAs are on both ARCs in some parts of the country, folks could have access to both ARCs but do to obstructions such as trees etc. they can only have their dish pointed at one. At my previous house, my dish was pointed at the Western ARC. When I moved to a location only about 8 miles away, I had to have my dish pointed at the Eastern Arc due to tree obstruction. In my case, the ARC that my locals are on doesn't matter since I receive my locals via an attic antenna.

If things go as planned - launch tonight.

Launch time: 11:19 p.m. EDT (0319 UTC)
Launch site: SLC-40, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch EchoStar's EchoStar 25 satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit. The direct broadcast satellite is a collaboration between EchoStar and its subsidiary, Dish, as well as Lanteris Space Systems, a subsidiary of Intuitive Machines. More than 8.5 minutes after liftoff, the first stage booster, tail number B1085, launching for a 14th time, will land on the drone ship, 'A Shortfall of Gravitas,' positioned in the Atlantic Ocean. Watch live coverage.

Seattle's locals and a few surrounding DMAs have been on 119 since the start. I wonder if that will change?
