When in the guide and clicking on a future program to record, it defaults to record to DVR. There is no way for it to default to Autotune. Can an update be made to choose which is the default or am I missing something?

Go to DVR, arrow up to the tabs and go to Timers. Click on the show, click on Edit Timer and change to Autotune in the drop down

I do not see Autotune in my H3+, other H3, and my Joey 4s. I tried your procedure.
Do like what HipKat said for a H3, but click on the "Type" preference. There it will pop up a menu list for you to select either "DVR" or "AutoTune". I just tried it. I can't comment on a H3+ as I don't have one.

I know how to get to Autotune. It can be done by clicking to another program in the guide and then going back to the one selected to record. There one can click on it and go to Edit timer.

What would be nice is that when I select record the first time, that it would defalut to Autotune and I would not have to change it. Of course, if I did want to record it to DVR, I would have to use one of the processes described. That's ok. I almost always want to Autotune instead of DVR.

This question came up before. In the old days, there was 'auto tune' option when you selected a show in Guide that hasn't started yet.
Some software engineer at Dish must have felt it was not necessary and changed it! Bad idea. it was very convenient. Now, I use 'Alexa' to remind me!
Yes, you can first select 'record'. Then, click 'Edit' and change it to Auto tune from DVR. Extra steps for no reason.
I wish Dish had a represantation here. They could consider customer requests, wishes and perhaps modify the software with updates.

You can. Click twice on the show in the guide when you set it to record and it takes you to that same menu

I have to click to another program then back and click to get the Edit Timer button. After clicking to record and going back to guide with that program highlighted, a click just brings back Record, Program Info, etc.

Scott G., would you ask Dish to look into this? I should not be that difficult to program.

How about this scenario Brad?
few hours before a show you're interested in starts. you open guide, select 'record'. then, click 'edit'. change it to Auto tune. But, you realize your significant other may want to watch the same thing. She is out, shopping. then, your only option is record live when the show starts. You lose interest. you cannot switch the channel. you are stuck. If I am not mistaken Hopper records the channel you switch to.
If you run to another tv and and record that show you are safe.
my point is this should be much easier. Add more options. Something like this....
Record, Auto tune, Auto tune and record.

That way Hopper keeps recording the show and you can go somewhere else.
