Dish is dead to me.

Well looky what showed up in the mail today, the new smart card.Only took 10 days, not 2 or 3.Will I bother with it,not sure yet.Yespage said he got a card for his 722k to get the flex pack,so if a 722 can get it a 211k should. But I don't know if I'll bother yet

Is it going to hurt you to put it in to see what happens?

Curious if you called in and the card didn't work and the receiver was toast or whether you just moved on.

I had forgotten, but getting the card set up was the only time I think I had called Dish in the last decade or so. Not since they added the Chat option on their site, as well as the people that served here for a bit.

Never put the card in, never called back, don't know if it was gonna work or not.Now have more channels and channels I want for half or less than dish was gonna cost me.They f'd up so they lost, dishes are coming down and receivers get put on the shelf.

Who knows. It might have worked. Streaming is cheaper, though the disparity is shrinking.

Personally, I got a HDHomerun for OTA recording and after finally leaving Dish, I haven't missed it too much and certainly don't regret leaving. The money saved is notable and the streaming quality is generally better than the "HD" on Dish.

But I was happy with Dish for quite a while. They kept offering me the capability to save with different packages from Latino Dos to Welcome Pack plus supplemental to FlexPack. No one else remotely had that option. Dish would make you compromise, but I was willing to live with it. And the Disney renewal threads were legendary here. :D

The biggest complaint I have about streaming compared to DISH has to do with finding something to watch, more specifically, marking something as watched afterwards. Maybe someone can make a suggestion.

I pay for Paramount+ and really enjoy much of it's programming. There are multiple series that I watch. When I recorded a series on the Hopper, I could just delete each episode as I finished it and it wouldn't show up again in my DVR. With streaming, I have to spend much time figuring out which episodes I've seen already every time I go to watch a series. As far as I know, there is no way to "delete" an episode after I watch it.

Any ideas? I'm sure I'm missing something.

I took this photo of my screen from Paramount+'s Starfleet Academy. I have watched every episode. When you go to the episodes you see each episode as a list, horizontally, and if you have watched that episode at the bottom of the screen you will see a white horizontal line that shows if you have preciously watched it or if you only watched some of it episode that line will not fill all the way left to right. Other apps are similar.

www.trakt.com

The free version is all you need.

Trakt is actually a pretty solid solution for him.

Not because the streaming apps can't track episodes individually. They can. Usually. Until:
  • someone switches devices,
  • profiles get mixed,
  • an app randomly forgets progress,
  • a season gets re-added under a different listing,
  • or Paramount+ decides "Continue Watching" is more of a philosophical suggestion than a feature.
Which absolutely happens. Streaming apps are somehow simultaneously billion-dollar platforms and haunted carnival rides.

If his goal is simply:

"I want one place that remembers what episodes I've watched across services."

…then Trakt is probably the cleanest option available right now.

Especially useful if he:
  • rotates between multiple streaming services
  • watches on different devices
  • binges several shows simultaneously
  • forgets where he left off
  • watches older shows with 10+ seasons
  • has ADHD-level media consumption like the rest of modern civilization
The simplest legit-user setup would be:
  • Trakt account
  • Optional Trakt VIP if he wants official streaming sync integrations
  • Mobile app or browser extension
  • Use Trakt mainly as the "master memory"
Alternative options exist, but they're weaker:
  • TV Time → very mainstream/social/mobile-focused
  • JustWatch → better for "where is this streaming?" than progress tracking
  • Simkl → surprisingly good, more anime-heavy crowd
  • Reelgood → decent aggregator, less robust tracking

Trakt still tends to win for serious episode tracking without becoming obnoxious. Which is rare. Most apps eventually mutate into ad-delivery systems wearing the corpse of a useful feature.
