I've been reading up on all the new eBay scams this morning. Apparently there are some buyers who will order an item and pay, wait until the seller puts it in the mail, then they delete their account. I'm not sure how/if Ebay makes the seller whole in that scenario.

It seems like the scamming and grifting is increasing exponentially by the day.

I haven't sold anything on there for about 3 years, but you used to be able to set your auctions so nobody with 0 or less than 5 feedback could even bid. Isn't that still there? No guarantee you won't be scammed, but should help. I've been on Ebay since late 1997, and I've seen it all...

I never ship an item until the funds have cleared and are on their way to my bank account. All my auctions are set at 3-5 business days shipping time for that reason.

No they don't. I sell at least 1-2 items weekly and have never had them hold funds.

You are correct. IF you are an infrequent seller, (and I don't know the interval), they'll hold the funds before releasing.

They did it to me in 2023, and I had been on Ebay for 26 years at that point. I had no sales for two years before that, even though I had plenty over the years.

P.S. I have NEVER had anything but Positive feedback. No negatives. They still held my money.

I stand corrected then. It could be related to performance. I try to keep enough listed that I sell frequently, just to avoid going dormant. I also have an older account that was created under their "Verified" system too, which may have something to do with hit. Back then you had to carefully verify your identity to get a verified checkbox on your account.

Just received another message from a user who started by out asking the SAME question in the same way as the previous scammer. I immediately blocked them, too.

I buy from eBay sometimes from major vendors, like Anker or Eufy or Adidas. I avoid individual sellers and won't even try to sell anything anymore. I've been a member for over 28 years, but selling has gotten expensive and the rules seems to favor the buyer much more than they should. JMO
